I've just received e-mail through the Civil War Blue list in which several listers are honoring their ancestors by naming them and their military service through that list. So I'd like to just name my Revolutionary War ancestors and at the same time honor the memory of my mother (Annabel Lee Drake McCrosky, deceased), who did most of the "digging" so that all are officially proved: Reinhold Abendschoen (maternal) - PA - German immigrant who took oath of allegiance Foster Burrowes (maternal) - Hunterdon Co NJ Daniel Drake (maternal) - Hunterdon Co NJ Thomas Drake (maternal) - Hunterdon Co NJ Balzer Leffel (maternal) - PA - German immigrant who took oath of allegiance John Leffel (maternal) - PA (son of Balzer; paid supply tax) Townsend Mathews (paternal) - PA Jacob Prillaman (maternal) - VA Andrew Ream (maternal) - the only one buried in my home county - CLARK, OH - on his farm Samuel Stout (maternal) - Hunterdon Co NJ Isaac Taylor (maternal) - NJ John Van Dyke (maternal) - NY Joseph Wilkinson (paternal) - VA (but born in Antrim, Ireland)
What a nice idea. I would like to honor my Revolutionary War Patriots. I'd like to honor my patriots: William Pratt Josiah Burton Hugh Randolph All from South Carolina Ester Eads
Janet, Great idea! In memory of my ancestors who served in the War for Independence: James Tompkins - 2nd Rhode Island Isaac Pooler - 5th Massachusetts David Lookinbee - North Carolina Militia Joel Elam - Mecklenburg Co. Virginia, patriotic service (sale of beef to Continental Army) Mary Yancey - Mecklenburg Co. Virginia, patriotic service (sale of beef to Continental Army)
...and my American Revolution patriots: Private William McSwain--10th NC Line Regiment, Continental Army (under Brevard) Mark Bird--Colonel in the Pennsylvania Reserves, soon was requested to make iron for the independence effort. He mostly made cannons and nail wire at his furnace/foundary in Berks Co. PA. The ironworks were at Hopewell Foundary near Birdsboro, now a National Historic Site managed by the NPS. Mark Bird is also documented to have sent 1000 barrels of flour to Washington at Valley Forge when the going was tough. Mark's brother-in-law (brother of Mark's spouse) signed the Declaration of Independence (George Ross). James E. I'd like to honor my grandmother Jane PEDEN MORTON MORROW, Chester Co. SC, recognized as a True Heroine by the DAR, her grave is marked by the Dripping Springs Chapter, DAR, Morgan Co. AL. She and her sister drove their wagons onto the battlefield at Ninety Six, SC, picked up wounded Patriots and took them to their homes to nurse them. One story has her physically attacking a British soldier trying to kill a wounded American. Go Grandma! Also, my grandfather, Thomas STANFORD, Chester Co. SC, who fought at Eutaw Springs, Charleston, Rocky Comfort (against Indians) and at the Battle of Camden. He is buried in Fayette Co. AL where a memorial has been erected to honor his service to our country. Monya Fayette Co.
