Because of state law at the time, it was not possible for the governor nor the counties to sent the militia out of state, but when word got out that Bouquet was in need of help, many VA militia men volunteered, many of whom had relatives captured and held by the Shawnee and other tribes. After the prisoners were rescued, they were brought to Ft. Pitt and then escorted home. In early 1765, Col.
