As a matter of correctness regarding the term "Continental" in regimental designations, only 26 Regiments from the New England states and PA carried the term Continental and only during the time frame 1776-1777. The term was dropped as the Army reorganized in 1777. Virginia regiments of the Continental Line were never designated numbered Continental Regiments, but as numbered regiments of Virginia (e.g., 1st Virginia Regiment) in the/of the Continental Line. During the RW Virginia had both a 1st VA Regiment allocated to the Continental Line and a 1st VA State Regiment which was briefly allocated to the Continental Line. These two regiments were separate entities. Best regards, Hugh
