    3. The MOST IMPORTANT thing that you MUST try to avoid is misidentification. If you have the name of an ancestor who was "in the Revolution" and then find a muster roll or some other record that has a soldier of the same name in it you MAY or may NOT have found the same person. For years it was thought that my ancestor, Henry Flesher, was the Henry Flesher who served in Michael Bowyer's Company of Continentals but when all the dogs were hung it turned out that the Henry in Bowyer's unit was my Henry's NEPHEW. Lots of red faces among DAR members! If your ancestor was from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania or South Carolina I may be able to help you start. If from some other area I have much less knowledge. How 'bout posting the story to the list? There are LOTS of very knowledgeable folks on this list.
