Debbie: what ideas are you looking for? I am a direct descendant of Eliakim Stow. My dog-eared copy of the Kelley Family History says Eliakim Stow, of Middletown, Connecticut, was born in 1707 and died in 1797, not 1789. I suppose the Stows came originally from Massachusetts, like everyone else then in Connecticut. On the other hand, this might be a different Eliakim Stow. Does this help? He is not in their Patriot Index.
