Do you know that the Veterans Administrations will place a marker for anyone with military service who does not already have a headstone/marker? If you can document they had service, you can get a free headstone/marker. The only catch is that is that it has to be shipped to someone who will be responsible for installing it. Also, you have to get permission from place the marker wherever. If some one is known to have died in a particular location, but the exact whereabouts is unknown, you can place the marker wherever you can get permission. Example: There is a little cemetery at the Battle of Kettle Creek near Washington, GA. The markers are there, even though there are no actual burials there. My ancestor participated in the Battle of Kettle Creek, but did not died in 1807. He was probable buried on his on land near the Battlefield. I wish I could put a marker for him in the battlefield cemetery, but I don't think there is any more room there. I have a civil war ancestor who is supposed to be buried in a family cemetery, but he has no maker. I would like to get one for him -- someday. More projects to work on in my "spare time". Phyllis
