Gwathmey says that a Jacob SMOCK had service in the 3rd and 4th VA Regiments and service in the 4th, 8th, and 12th VA Regiments. It can be shown that Jacob SMOCK, Sergeant, had service in the 8th VA, in the consolidated 4th/8th/12th VA Regiment. and in the 4th VA. (VF and Army Hist records. There is evidence that he served 2 years, 5 months, from 19 June 1777 to Nov 1779 (DAR) There is VA Military Warrant that was for three years service in VA Cont'l Line (#1022).
