    1. [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Where do I research Pennsylvania militia units?

    3. Hi, folks I've just learned learned that my ancestor, Joseph Levering (1748-1822) served in two units of the Philadelphia County (Pennsylvania) Militia during the Revolution -- first as a private in a Capt. Norney's command and, later, as a sergeant in a Capt. Alexander Colley's company. How do I find learn more about these units? I am more familiar with the Civil War military, in which a "company" was usually a subdivision of a regiment -- which was, in turn, a subdivision of a battalion or corps. Was that also the case during the Revolution? What I most want to determine is when the units were formed, where they were assigned and what battles they participated in. I already know that Joseph was captured at the Battle of the Brandywine. I appreciate your help. Mark
