    1. [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Need help on Wm Dunlap
    2. Mike Dunlap
    3. I have a possible Rev. War ancestor that I have not found proof of service for as of yet. His name is William Dunlap (b abt 1744 d 1816 in Ky). According to info I have received, Wm Dunlap was supposedly a Major in the war. I contacted the D.A.R. and received a copy of an application. The problem with the application was it showed no proof of service. Since then D.A.R. has stopped accepting applications based on that line. The info I have on Wm. Dunlap is as follows: Born approx. 1743-44 and died in Fayette Co. Ky in 1816. He was married to Rebecca Robertson. I suspect that if in fact Wm. did serve it might have been in the militia. Does anyone have any info that would confirm he did serve and when and where? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Mike Dunlap

    3. Elaine, I know he was from Augusta County Va. And settled in Fayette Co Ky after the war. I haven't found any bounty warrants or the like. There was a story that supposedly he was with Paine who was slapped by Washington at some point, at least that is the story. Other than the book "The House of Dunlap", I have no info on his service, which stated that he was at the surrender of Cornwallis. I'm beginning to believe that my line of Dunlap's hated paperwork and were ghosts!
