    3. Greetings Listers, I read this list and learn a great deal on a weekly basis. Now it is my turn to share. I joined DAR because I wanted to honor my patriots who served to make this the great country it is. I had to research and document every ancestor back to my "favorite" ancestor a fighting Quaker. It was not easy but I learned a great deal. Along the way I had many DAR members help me. When it got down to approving my application I was fortunate enough to be able to visit DC and meet with the genealogist employee reviewing my file. I have since documented and honored two more revolutionary ancestors. DAR is a patriotic organization. It is current. It is non-political (although you may run into some strong willed individuals). Most of all it is an organziation of women who treasure their lineage. I have been priviledged to be a member in Virginia Beach and now Maryland. Within the membership of DAR there are Certified Genealogists. They DO NOT market their skills. In some chapters there are membership chairs who are the first liaison to a potential member. Each chapter does have a registrar. Some chapters have few members others like both of mine have ACTIVE membership in excess of 60 people. If you need help ask for it. Honoring your ancestor for your heirs is a living gift. One cannot explain, it is a feeling, a powerful feeling to know that you can honor your lineage.
