Irene, It's a good idea, but it would cost abt $40-50 a month to maintain a telephone (plus the deposit of $$$), and since the Regent of a chapter changes every 2-3 years, they each would have to establish credit/deposit with phone company in their name....new phone #, location etc. so its not economical to do that and I can't think of anyone wanting a separate phone in their homes, etc. We send out information to the local libraries about our chapter, advertisement in Genealogical publications and the Registrar's phone number & email address is available, also the DAR website URL. You can go to the DAR website and find local chapter(s) and visit them to see if you want to join that chapter. If you join a chapter and not happy, you can transfer to one of your choice. We Welcome all prospective members, help them find documentation, fill out their applications, work with them until they are accepted by DAR. Prospective member are welcome to visit chapters to see which one they feel comfortable with, we want you to join DAR and stay a member. In some cases we spend time, and money to do research so we want you to join and make it worthwhile....nothing is FREE anymore... And We Welcome All Daughters from other chapters to visit our Chapter. And about No Help from some chapters: And yes there are chapters that are "what we use to call "Good Old Boy organzations " NO newcomers are welcome clubs, and they let you know upfront your not welcome.. Doesn't matter if its DAR, SAR, War of 1812 or any other organization.
