    3. If you have access to the publications of the National Genealogical Society, check out the Quarterly, Volume 79, Number 1, March, 1991. On page 5, Helen F. M. Leary has written an article, "Certification of Genealogists: A Consumers Report". Ms. Leary outlines the certification requirements and the categories. One can check the NGS on-line site and read about the courses offered and the fees attached thereto. Also the above cited issue of the quarterly may be available for purchase through their on-line site. The address for the Board for Certification of Genealogists is P.O. Box 5816, Falmouth,VA 22403-5815. Ms. Leary served as president at the time of writing the above referenced article. I am not sure but the Family History Center may also offer courses of study in preparation for the testing and certification. The BGC will take legal action against persons using designations fraudulently. One must retest every five years to ensure skills are updated and their work is of quality in order to maintain their certification. The BGC does not offer courses but is an independent accrediting organization. Tree Mother "She is insane, of course. The family history has become a mania for her."
