Does anyone have any information on how to go about doing that? If I can find out exactly what's needed to do that, I'd be happy to have a stone installed for my ancestor...(must be a webpage about it somewhere??) -David -----Original Message----- From: american-revolution-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:american-revolution-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of PmpGenie@aol.com Sent: Saturday, December 09, 2006 12:08 PM To: american-revolution@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Battles and Monuments In a message dated 12/9/2006 1:06:18 A.M. Do you know that the Veterans Administrations will place a marker for anyone with military service who does not already have a headstone/marker? If you can document they had service, you can get a free headstone/marker. The only catch is that is that it has to be shipped to someone who will be responsible for installing it. Also, you have to get permission from place the marker wherever. If some one is known to have died in a particular location, but the exact whereabouts is unknown, you can place the marker wherever you can get permission. Example: There is a little cemetery at the Battle of Kettle Creek near Washington, GA. The markers are there, even though there are no actual burials there. My ancestor participated in the Battle of Kettle Creek, but did not died in 1807. He was probable buried on his on land near the Battlefield. I wish I could put a marker for him in the battlefield cemetery, but I don't think there is any more room there. I have a civil war ancestor who is supposed to be buried in a family cemetery, but he has no maker. I would like to get one for him -- someday. More projects to work on in my "spare time". Dave, There is a Department of Veterans Affairs one page form that you fill out that I picked up at a VA Center or a American Legion Post near you may have the form. Also include documentation from your ancestor. A page that comes with the form will explain what documentation that is needed and where to send it. I have received two, one for my Rev. War ancestor and one for my Civil War ancestor. I had an extra form I could have sent you, but at the moment can't find it.
