Different Samuel than the one of whom you're thinking. Samuel, "Ie fameux Adams." , 'Signer of the Declaration', was b.1722-d.1803. > >In the fall of 1776, John Adams had some tea sent to Abigail, Mrs. J. Adams, by a man who delivers it instead to Mrs. S. Adams. Abigail goes to visit Mrs. Samuel Adams and is served HER tea but says nothing to Mrs. Samuel Adams about the wrong delivery address. When asked about the delicious tea, Mrs. Adams says her "sweetheart" sent it to her. This is the only mention I can find that Samuel Adams is away. Very interesting. Abigail didn't realize until later that John had sent her tea [via Elbridge Gerry who seems to have gotten the wrong Mrs. Adams]. I see letters from Samuel Adams datelined Philadelphia in July 1776, New York in August, Boston in September and Philadelphia again in October. That is interesting, now that you mention it, that Samuel appeared to be in the area when Abigail noted the mixup on the tea. Gerry might have beat him home by a few days-- but the Abigail letter is the 9th of Sept and Samuel writes to John Adams on the 16th from Boston. Jim
