The goal of the teacher is to instill a desire to learn more than what he/she is presenting in the classroom. Looking back on my own acquired interest in history, I seem to recall that I began loving history at a young age. Much of what I have learned from that time to the present wasn't provided entirely in the classroom. But, my teachers piqued my interest and I took the initiative to borrow books from the library to learn more. Now, with the Internet, a history teacher can direct his/her students to so many more resources than I once had. I hope our teachers today will instill in our students the desire to become life-time learners. I learn something new almost everyday. And, I certainly don't know all that I'd like to know about history. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he will eat forever. Or something like that. <grin> Lonny J.
