    3. I would appreciate feedback on this resource for tracing ancestors serving in the Rev. War. If anyone has particular books or CD's that they feel are valuable resources, I would think other 'newbies' on research would like to know that, too. Thank you! Pat J.

    3. Pat, I purchased this CD a few years ago and was disappointed in its limited scope. A more complete and comprehensive resource, if you can travel, is the microfilm collection available in any branch of the National Archives. There you can find copies of the actual record cards. Many states, Connecticut and New York in particular, also have excellent books that list participants in the Revolution, arranged under the names of their commanding officers. Massachusetts has the multi-volume "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the American Revolution," which devotes a paragraph or more to each participant in the war. Sometimes the same man is listed in two or more units, each with a separate paragraph as to what his activites were in that unit. If you can query someone who has access to this set of books (available in many Massachusetts libraries), they may be willing to do a look-up for you and make a photocopy of the page on which your ancestor is listed. Good luck! 3. Someone has just alerted me to the fact that "Mass. Soldiers & Sailors" is also available on-line. I don't have an exact link for it myself, just many hits on Google. Perhaps someone else can nose around and find a good one.
