What types of records are available that would help in researching patriotic service of individuals. The one I am searching for is Bartholomew Grogan who I believe rendered service there. Our library doesn't have many records for North Carolina that show this type of service and he has not been proven through the DAR Thanks. Pat Reeser
I do not see a William Greene who married Lucy Gardiner on the DAR's web site. That doesn't mean that he did not serve. Kenneth, How sure are you of location on William Green who married Lucy, and his date of birth? I found a William Green married to Lucy Blackwell with children Susy, Susannah, Robert, Elizabeth, and Joseph, plus two more that can not be read due to tears in the paper. Born VA. Greetings, I'm wondering if anyone might have an insight into the possible Revolutionary War service of William Greene who married Lucy Gardiner. William Greene was born in Rhode Island (1742 or 43) to Amos Greene and Amy Knowles. He seems to have died 7 Oct 1778. Thank you for any help you might be able to provide. Best regards, Kenneth ____________________________________________________________________________________ Want to start your own business? Learn how on Yahoo! The tombs of the unknown in Arlington Cemetery are for the Civil War, WWI, WWII, the Korean War and Viet Nam, not for the Rev War. There is a Tomb of the Unknown Rev War Soldier maintained by the Children of the American Revolution at an old church in Alexandria, VA. Hi Everyone, I am a member of the SAR-Saratoga Battle Chapter and we are active in a lot of RevWar activities. We recently placed a RevWar grave marked for a Moses Hall in Saratoga County. Go to: http://www.saratogabattle-sar.org/pages/articles/sbc-sar_vdc2006.html to find out a bit about how this was arranged, the history behind the event and how it turned out, including pictures. Charlie King SAR, Saratoga Battle Ch. It was written: "Do you know that the Veterans Administrations will place a marker for anyone with military service who does not already have a headstone/marker? If you can document they had service, you can get a free headstone/marker. The only catch is that is that it has to be shipped to someone who will be responsible for installing it. Also, you have to get permission from place the marker wherever." ________________________________________________________________________ Try Juno Platinum for Free! Then, only $9.95/month! "The Tomb of the Unknown American Revolutionary War Soldier is in Washington Square, Philadelphia See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomb_of_the_Unknown_Soldier_(Philadelphia) Thanks for posting that URL. I had no idea that monument existed. Rick
FYI, many years ago I was in Philadelphia PA. Beside Independence Hall is Washington Park. There is a raised tomb in this park the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolutionary War is or was located. This is according to a nearby inscription. Irene, It's a good idea, but it would cost abt $40-50 a month to maintain a telephone (plus the deposit of $$$), and since the Regent of a chapter changes every 2-3 years, they each would have to establish credit/deposit with phone company in their name....new phone #, location etc. so its not economical to do that and I can't think of anyone wanting a separate phone in their homes, etc. We send out information to the local libraries about our chapter, advertisement in Genealogical publications and the Registrar's phone number & email address is available, also the DAR website URL. You can go to the DAR website and find local chapter(s) and visit them to see if you want to join that chapter. If you join a chapter and not happy, you can transfer to one of your choice. We Welcome all prospective members, help them find documentation, fill out their applications, work with them until they are accepted by DAR. Prospective member are welcome to visit chapters to see which one they feel comfortable with, we want you to join DAR and stay a member. In some cases we spend time, and money to do research so we want you to join and make it worthwhile....nothing is FREE anymore... And We Welcome All Daughters from other chapters to visit our Chapter. And about No Help from some chapters: And yes there are chapters that are "what we use to call "Good Old Boy organzations " NO newcomers are welcome clubs, and they let you know upfront your not welcome.. Doesn't matter if its DAR, SAR, War of 1812 or any other organization.
