Harrison. Information on how to do this has been posted many times on this list in the past year. Good hunting, Judy

    1. [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Daniel MorganFw: Alpheus Lewis
    2. George Patrick
    3. Mike, Tom posted this link a couple of weeks ago. I entered "Morgan" in the search engine and it shows that Daniel Morgan was on the muster rolls from Dec. 1777 to June 1778. Captain Thomas Posey was there, too, for this same period of time so I assume the whole unit was there? It is my understanding that shortly after June 1778 Morgan returned home to rest and have time to recover from some illnesses and wounds. There was some controversy over a promotion he felt he had earned but didn't get at that time so he wasn't in military service again until his most famous battles in the Carolinas. Most of his unit was either killed or wounded so he left Valley Forge with the understanding that he was going to recruit more frontier riflemen. george ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Montague" <tommontague@cox.net> To: <american-revolution@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2006 2:50 PM Subject: Re: [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Alpheus Lewis > Do a search of the Valley Forge "Muster Roll" at > http://valleyforgemusterroll.org/QueryMSAccess.asp > > I counted 75 Lewis's of which there are 3 John's from Virginia and 1 > Thomas > but no James's. 2. Michael McAlonie
    3. There was a James Millar listed in William Henderson's Company of Daniel Morgan's Regt. in a May 1778 pay roll with notation "Volunteer" next to his name. What would that notation mean- he was a local who joined for a short time? Where was Morgan's Regt in May 1778? If anyone has ready access to Morgan's Regt records could they tell me how long this James Millar was in the Regt or any information about him? Thanks, Mike Subject: Re: [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Captain William HendersonParticipant intheBattle of Saratoga.doc Here are several more soldiers who served in Daniel Morgan's Rifle Regiment under Capt. 3. Here are several more soldiers who served in Daniel Morgan's Rifle Regiment under Capt. William Henderson: Robert Kinkade, John Howe, and Peter Kerlin. I transcribed from microfilm at the National Archives, the following 1820 RW pension application of Robert Kinkade, 1742-1832---my gr-gr-gr-grandfather. He served in a number of important battles of the Revolutionary War, and he is mentioned several times in the book "The First Virginia Regiment of Foot, 1775-1783", by M. Lee Minnis. In this book, his name is spelled "Kincaid". Because he mentioned service under Capt. George Gibson, he may also have been in Dunmore's War at Ft. Pitt in 1774/1775. ************************ State of Kentucky Hardin Circuit Ct June Term 1820 Ordered that the following declaration, affadavit, and schedule be admitted to record having been sworn to in open court. Original Claim District of Kentucky Hardin Circuit Is on this 16th day of June 1820 personally app.= and in open court being a court of record for the county and district aforesaid Robert Kinkade aged seventy eight years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of congress of the 18th day of March 1818 and the 1st day of May 1820. That he the said Robert Kinkade enlisted first for the term of one year under Captain George Gibson and joined the first virginia regiment. Then I enlisted for three years under Captain Samuel Crump in Read's regiment. I was detached into Col. Daniel Morgan's rifle Corps in the year 1777 in the state of Virginia and was also detached out of that company into Captain Gabriel Long's company and served in that company until I was discharged which was about august 1779. Then at Genl George Washington's request I took command of a small party to scout on the line! the York state at Fort Montgomery when he was discharged from the said service in 1779 in the state of new Jersey by Peter Mecklenburgh Brigadier General. In the year 1780 I went to sea on board of the state ship Hyderally commanded by Joshua Barney. I was out with commodore Barney until peace was concluded and that he was in the Battles of the first war at the taking of the hessians at Trenton new Jersey then at princeton then at Piscatanay then at the taking of Burgoyne then at the taking of stony point then at Paulus Hook under Colonel Henry Lee. And that he has no other proof except the affadavit of John Howe and Peter Kerlin as follows to wit October 9th 1819 we do hereby certify that sergeant Robert Kinkade now before us is the same we knew and scouted with in Colonel Daniel Morgan's Rifle regiment in the continental Army in the revolutionary wars which regiment was made up out of the states of Pennsylvania and Virginia. The said Kinkade was drafted into William Henderson's company afterwards into Gabriel Long's Company. In said corps he being enlisted for three years during the time of our knowledge with him which was from the spring seventy seven until the year seventy nine we believe was regularly discharged by General Peter Mecklenburg . During the time in acquaintance with him we can say he behaved himself as an orderly obedient good soldier and deserves the countenance(?) of his country. Given from under our hands this day and year above written. John Howe, sergeant major in the same regiment Peter Kerlin his mark Commonwealth of Kentucky Jefferson County Court This day the above named John Howe and Peter Kerlin made oath before the undersigned a justice of the peace in and for the county of name that this foregoing statement relating to the services of sergeant Robt Kinkade is true to the best of their recollection and belief. 1. [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Global Gazetteer of the Revolutionary War
    2. John Robertson
    3. My Global Gazetteer of the Revolutionary War is now publicly accessible and searchable at http://jrshelby.com/sc-links/gaz/index.htm It is, and will likely remain, a menu item of SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN ~ REV WAR at http://jrshelby.com/sc-links/ It has been made accessible to Google/Yahoo searches but only today, so it will be a while before they show up. Anything in the GG will show up in the on-site search engine found in the menu line on all pages of this sprawling site. http://jrshelby.com/sc-links/search.htm That already works. It is re-indexed weekly. If you have MS Streets & Trips (2006 or 2007, not sure about earlier versions), you will find that it makes a powerful find/display interface for the entire Global Gazetteer database. Some have told me that this use for S&T more than justifies it modest cost. A local Wal-Mart had it for $29.95 this week (withou gps). If you have a laptop that you can run in your car and are in an area where the sites are within driving distance, and do not have a gps, it may well be worth your while to get the version with gps. You can download combined.est from the GG site to your laptop, go "moving map" with S&T, and be able to create driving directions to most of the sites, and be able to see your present location on the map at any time. The objective for GG is that it will encourage collaborators from all areas of interest, and will continue to be refined and improved indefinitely. It can never be "finished". Anyone with interest in a site can be of help. Historical ref's saying who was present, where they were, wnen they were there, with what outcome can be located with little or no mapping skill, and is the most time-consuming part of the process. If you are interested, you can be of help. The only reason the database has been put online is to allow the possibility for this collaboration to occur. The database remaining online is totally dependent upon the amount of collaboration it generates. If the collaboration is not forthcoming, it will disappear. Everyone using the database should read http://jrshelby.com/sc-links/gaz/pleaseread.htm John Robertson

    1. Re: [AMERICAN-REVOLUTION] Camp Germannia-Spring of 1777
    2. Stubby, Adam RITTER is my ancestor. I have his Rev. War records and have never been able to find the reference to Camp Germania other than in his records that state he enlisted there. I know of the first and second settlements of Germania in the early 1700's. I believe that was located in Madison County of today which was a part of Culpeper until 1793. Culpeper County was a part of Orange County until 1749 and I know that even after Frederick County became a county in 1738, also from Orange County, many of the early settlers still traveled to Orange and Augusta Counties in order to file documents. So that area is a possible location for the camp. I know that this reference to Camp Germania could be many different things such as a permanant place or maybe just a camp set up temporarily for the troops at the time. I thought if someone else had a reference to it in their records perhaps that would add a clue to the mystery. Thank you so much for your input and help. Best regards, Chocy

Where would this "a camp near Germania Ford, Virginia" be located? 3. Again, I can't be certain (because I find no reference so far to the year 1777 - only finding references in the Civil War era) but the articles I'm finding mention armies crossing Germania Ford on the Rapidan River. There's also a reference in an article that Germanna was often misspelled as "Germania". When I looked up Germanna, I'm finding that the Germanna Ford is now called Germanna Bridge because of the bridge that's built there now. The article goes on to mention that the Ford is "from the east ridge of Culpepper some 16 miles down to Germanna Ford.........." so this is an indication of it being either in the city of Culpepper (if there is one) and/or Culpepper County, Va. The article goes on to say something about some of the history of Germanna. "Germanna was so named after Queen Anne of England and the German refugees from religious persecution, who settled there between 1714 and 1720 and worked in Gov. Spotwood's iron mines and operated the first blast furnace in the new world." Germanna is also referenced to St. Mark's Parish, VA. Another articles says Germanna is in Orange County, VA. This is as much as I can extract at this point. What are the names of the ancestor(s) you are looking for? Stubby Chocybrown@aol.com wrote: Stubby, That is good news.
