    3. This is all history of the Wyoming Valley. The range of Robinson's Rangers though seems to be quite wide, perhaps most of the state. I don't know the exact location of the house. There is just a map on one the sites. Once I get done with more thorough research, perhaps this weekend, I will post it to the list. I have had a brutal but productive day of work at Nike and am working out some financial stuff so the genealogy will have to wait. 3. Joanne, Your habit sounds a lot like mine. I seem to find info for other people so much more easily than my own I would appreciate the attachment very much. I have a cousin who told me his father thought our ancestors "probably" came from Va. In that case the trail would have gone through NC, SC into Ga. unless they were over near the western trek down through NC SC Tenn and into Ga and Al. Rowan Co. would be over by the western trek.Lots of "Fossetts" in north Ga and Al. NC seems to be mostly "Fawcetts/Faucetts,etc." I just feel what I am looking for is right under my cursor and can't see it. Greene Co Ga had a politician named Peter Early and I believe my Peter Early is named for him. There is a Louisa Fossett in Greene Co Ga that married a William Gaston. I believe she is either sister or mother to Peter. His first dau. is named Louise/Louisa and the name is all through the family as well as the Early name. Haven't found the Gastons beyond Greene Co. Ga. The widow Martha Fossett is daughter of John and Patience Brunt. They are buried beside Peter and Martha in the Pike Co Ga Old Salem/Fossett Cemetery. Thank you so much for your interest. Also, I have access to Heritage Quest here in my library. Thanks for that tip. Since Peter Early Fossett named his first son Robert, this could be useful IF you have reason to think Peter's parents were in NC. Robert's name, by the way, is "translated" by officials as Faucett, Forsett et al, although Robert's signature is clear when you remember that an S was usually written as an f. > > Let me know if you want the attachment. > > Joanne Kartak > > >-> > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Check out other genealogy resources on the net at John Fuller's most > helpful site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > AMERICAN-REVOLUTION-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' > without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > __________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Tired of spam? 3. WOW!!!!!!!!! Thanks ladies. I have Peter Early Fossett, his marriage, children and most of their families. They moved to Pike Co Ga and Peter and wife and several of the children are buried in Fossett Cemetery originally Old Salem. It is still well kept and the land was given by Peter. Also his in-laws, John Swanson Brunt and wife Patience Rowland are buried there. Guess I was hoping maybe a pension application would hold a clue. I was at a loss as to how to go about checking that source. By the way: Peter was listed as Fassett in his Greene Co Ga marriage record. Some internet info has him listed as Peter Karly Fossett. There is a Peter Karly descended from the Fossetts of Thomas Jefferson plantation. There is a very interesting story of his life but not, so far as I know, any connection to my family. Will take your suggestions one by one and see where it takes me. Thanks again for the postings and all the ideas. Til next time, Joanne Yeager Thorne

    3. Joanne, It sounds like you know quite a bit about this family and are doing a good job. I'm a volunteer researcher, and by habit I get so curious about other people's search problems, that I did a quick look for Peter Fossett on ancestry.com. It's interesting that he is found in the 1850 census as "Early" Fossett and that his neighbors in 1850 included John and Patience Brunt and Elizabeth Bradbury and that a Bradbury shows up living with widow Martha Fossett in the 1870 census. I assume you've researched these surnames. If you have a subscription to Heritage Quest, you can search for RWV pension applications. Subscriptions are often available through local public libraries. I used my subscription and found a Robert Fossett of Rowan Co. NC and his signed statement. (I can send a copy via attachement if you like.) Since Peter Early Fossett named his first son Robert, this could be useful IF you have reason to think Peter's parents were in NC. Robert's name, by the way, is "translated" by officials as Faucett, Forsett et al, although Robert's signature is clear when you remember that an S was usually written as an f. 3. Thank you Joanne, We all need to hear, stop & do what you suggest! As I live in AL may I suggest 2 books on GA research: "Gone to GA" sorry, don't know author, but if someone is interested I'll go local library & find out. Another is "GA Research: a Handbook...." by Robert S. Davis, Jr. and Ted Brooks. May order from GA Gene Society <www.gagensociety.org/publications.htm> $38.00 non-members. I plan to order one tomorrow. If I were you, I wouldn't be concerned at this time about a possible RWV. Why not concentrate on finding your Peter Fossett's family first? It's possible, of course, that you could go through the back door so to speak, and find find several Fossetts who were RWVs, and MAYBE, if you were extemely lucky, one of them filed a pension application and listed the names of his descendants, but the chances of this are extremely unlikely. Why not concentrate first on the county where Peter was born. By "concentrate", I mean learn everything you can about it, who were the families living there? Were there any Fossetts? Try every imaginable spelling. If you find Fossetts/Faucetts/Fawcett, et al, track each one down until you know where they lived, who their neighbors were, etc. What was the leading religion practiced? By this time, your search will almost take over by itself, and you'll know where to go next. If you can't find any Fossetts it's going to be a bit harder, but still not impossible. By now, you'll probably have a good idea where the people in Greene Co. Georgia came from. Check out every single clue --big or little. At least when you do find your family, you'll be able to recognize them when you get around to checking military histories. I could go on, but I think you get my message. As the descendant of several proven ancestors who were RWVs, I don't mean to minimize the pride and gratitude I feel for their contribution to our country, but it is NOTHING in comparison to first finding them and proving my descent.
