I would like to add one of my 4th or 5th great-grandfathers, Dominc van Couvenhoven from NY. Also,in remberenance of my mother, Mildred A Waddell, DAR for more than 25 years, and who did the digging for this ancestor. Next year I will have extracted the other Revolutionary War veteran's from my father's side of the family out of her records, not limited to but including Galusha's, also from NY. Thank you for this idea. I've been frustrated by all the coverage for veterans from WW I thru present, but no mention of soldiers from Revoluntionary War, War of 1812, etc. Betty --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? I usually lurk in the background but would like to honor my ancestors too. This is the email that I send out each year to my family. Gladys Our Revolutionary War Era Ancestors (and a relative) These are all direct line ancestors with the exception of General George Washington. These are the known servers among our ancestors and are documented. There could be more that served in the Revolutionary War, but I have not been able to document them yet. Mom's line 1. Obediah Palmer Kendrick - SC: He served in the militia under Col. Brandon and received a pension for serving. Died at the age of 94. 5th great grandfather 2. George Koonce - NC: Member of the General Assembly from Wilkes county, North Carolina 1778; he was a member of the House of Commons 1799. 6th great grandfather. He fought for several months then retired home to farm. A common practice was to hire some one to complete your service to the war, so son Phillip became a substitute for his father. Phillip received a pension for this service and a land grant. (Phillip was not a direct ancestor-his brother Christopher was our ancestor. It is rumored that he also fought, but was very young and no documentation found to support this). 3. John Parker - VA: Elder John was a Rev. War Patriot. He served under Capt. Fields in Colonel Slaughter's regiment, and in Colonel Alexander’s' Virginia regiment. He was a Pvt. and received a war pension. His name is on the Rev. War Hero Wall in the Texas State Capital building at Austin, TX. John Parker and 11 members of this family were killed in the massacre of Fort Parker, Limestone Co., TX. 19 May 1836. He was the grandfather of Quanah Parker, last Chief of the Comanche. 5th great grandfather 4. He was at the battle of Yorktown, and later stated that he had witnessed the surrender of Cornwallis there. At one time his home was headquarters for General Lafayette. (Common ancestor of Leland Tovrea and Lola Mae Bishop Tovrea). 7th great grandfather 7. Cason Brinson-Col. Cason Brinson Craven Co., NC Militia. Died and is buried in Craven Co., NC 8. James Brinson –son of Cason fought in his father's regiment. Borrowed from "Descendents of William Easley" compiled by Kyle Dameron, 1984. "James Brinson, the 5th child of Cason Brinson Sr. and wife Frances Marsh, was b. 5 Feb. 1730; d 5 Feb 1798 in Craven County, Goose Creek, NC. He married Kezia Linton about 1755-56, daughter of John Linton. I've just received e-mail through the Civil War Blue list in which several listers are honoring their ancestors by naming them and their military service through that list.
