You could try to contact the University of South Carolina Press. They are on the web, and they should have listings of old titles they have published. Anelle
A couple of years ago I read part of a book published by the University of South Carolina Press on the American Revolution in the South Carolina backcountry. I can't find it listed in the current USC Press catalog. I'd like to try to find it at a library (or a used book store) if it's out of print. Can anyone on this list suggest a title? (I've looked in the Library of Congress online catalog without success.) What I remember most about the book were a couple of detailed descriptions (in the first thirty or so pages) of the architecture of log cabins.

No the Auditor Account probably meant that he was PAID for service rendered and it may say whether it was militia or state line, what type (i.e. infantry, scout, etc.) and possibly where he lived. But it may be just a short sentence saying that he was paid. The VA State archives has the records. Best Regrds David Armstrong Elkins, WV

Just wanted to mention that a great deal of Rev. War information can be found in county history books. Take a look at the Table of Contents and Indexes for the books on CDs on this web site. dmkheritage.com By the way, it has Foote's "Sketches of N. C." one of the most quoted books on NC. To add to this string...The middle name of my multiple great grandfather (born NC 1822) was Kerr. Seems that Kerr was known for taking in orphans to help raise them to adulthood, if I remember right. He is noted several times for his bcivic duties for the social wellbeing of folks in the area of Rutherford County and vicinity (Broad River, Old Tryon Co., 96 district, etc).
