    3. From the first marriage Richard Martin who died 1786 in Wayne Co., NC. had the following children: Lydia (m Flowers), Mary (m Pipkin), Aaron, and Elizabeth ( Powell). At the time Richard Martin wrote his will, his daughter Mary Pipkin was dec'd. I checked Ancestry for Lydia Flowers. Her birth year was given as 1750, with siblings Mary, Aaron, and Elizabeth b 1760, the baby. Lydia's father was given as Richard Martin and her mother as Sarah unknown. Richard m2 Frances Turner 25 Oct 1783 in Caswell Co NC and with her had the following children: Richard 1784-1842, Bitha, 1785, and Sarah. Abstracts of the Early Deeds of Wayne County, North Carloina 1780-1793 by Joseph W. Watson: Deed Book 3, p 86, Item #518, p. 212: will of Richard of Wane Co. He names eldest son, Aaron Martin, son Richard Martin, wife Franky Martin, daughter Betty Powel, daughter Lydia Flowers, daughter Bitha Martin, daughter Salley Martin, dau Mary Pipkin, deceased. [Son Richard, I believe, m 1816 to Sarah(?) Brown, migrated into TN with her folks where he died 1842.] Deed Book 4: Item #783, p. 42: FRANKY MARTIN of Wayne Co. deed to Samuel Harrill of same, Nov. 5, 1787, in consideration that said harrill should take and raise her three children, namely, richard, Bitha, and Sally martin, a 150 acre plantation whereone said Franky Martin now lives, being half of the land and plantation formerly belonging to Richard Martin, deceased. Wit: Jno. Atkinson, John Flowers, Amos Walker Inventory of the Estate of Richard Martin, dec'd, June the 6th 1786 signed by Franky Martin with her mark. In the inventory Franky notes that a Negro wench is in the possession of Aaron Martin, one in the possession of Nicholas Powell, one the the possess of Jacob Flowers as well as a listing of the usual things found in as estate. On 14th Jan 1788 Samuel Harrell posted bond and was appointed guardian of Bitha and Sarah Martin. On the same date Aaron Martin posted bond and was made guardian of Richard Martin. On the 17th day of Jan 1793 Starling Powell [brother to Nicholas Powell] posted bond and was made guardian of Richard Martin, minor, replacing Aaron Martin. The foregoing documents, some of which have been obtained from the NC Archives, support my position that Frances Turner was a second wife and the mother of three of Richard's seven children notwithstanding what Ancestry might have for him. I am still searching for the place and date of birth and marriage of Richard Martin to his first wife, as well as his Revolutionary War service record. Thanks to all who have given a willing hand in helping me to get the record of Richard Martin who died 1786 in Wayne County, NC, correct and corrected. Margaret Miller

    1. Point Pleasant
    2. David Armstrong
    3. You are right about Point Pleasant but persons joining patriotic societies should be careful to remember that the reality is that the Battle of the Point was a campaign under British authority using colonial militia against an Indian tribe. If the SAR/DAR include Point Pleasant (which is fine with me) they would do well to also include the regulators war in North Carolina in 1771 as that one was more like the revolution - colonists fighting organized and recognized authority. I think it was John Adams who said in old age that the American Revolution was a revolution in people's thinking that took place over about 15 years beginning with the Proclaimation of 1763, the tax acts, etc. and ending with a military campaign to win independence. It is also useful to remember that some of the issues never were settled until the War of 1812. Best Regards David Armstrong Elkins, WV ----- Original Message ----- From: "Logan M. 1. Re: [AMER-REV] SAR Patriot Index - Pliny KELLOGG
    2. Norb Bankert
    3. Pat, Godfrey and the CSG aside, I was able to check the SAR membership directory for 1993. p. 497 Kellogg, Pliny (patriot) Kellogg, Glen Franklin (member) p. 204 Kellogg, Glen Franklin, 117766 (I assume membership #); Erie, PA; Pliny Kellogg; Pvt., Hadley MA; 840 Rankine Ave, Erie, PA 16511, 814-899-2669; Retired Pharacist, Betty (wife's name) Also, using Heritage Quest through CSG, there are 2 pensions apps for Pliny Kellogg. A quick look, it looks like he applies in 1818 (then living in Ohio) and again in 1834 (then living in NY). Looks like he had an eventfull service. Battle of NY, Battle of Monmouth, Battle against Burgoyne (Saratoga). SAR and DAR: If you are applying to the SAR, they do accept DAR approved lines as proof. eg. If your grandmother was DAR, you would only have to prove your descent from your grandmother and then use her DAR line as proof back to your ancestor. Note though that the DAR is now requiring additional proof for earlier approved lines. In earlier years the proving of lines was not rigidly scrutinized so people applying using some older DAR lines are required to "re-prove" the line. It would probably be worth your while to send a request to the NARA for the complete pensions ($37), but it looks like you might have to send a request for each. Without checking closely, I'm assuming these are the same guy but I suppose it could be a father and son. I'm assuming > you mean I can access them through Heritage Quest online? > > Thanks! > >> BTW, Godfrey and the CSG are both heritage quest Sorry, I inadvertantly replied to the wrong email message but this can fit here. An associate was requesting information on accessing heritage quest (Pro Quest) which has online access to census images/indexes, family histories, and of significant interest to this group, NARA AR pension images which consist of about 10 pages of images for those who received pensions in the AR (we used to send a check to the NARA for these and then wait months for a reply). Godfrey library (as I understand) gives access to heritage quest for $35 a year. However, the Connecticut Society of Genealogist gives the same access for $37 and includes a subscritption to the Connecticut Nutmegger. The Membership card in the CGS also allows you acces to Vital records in town clerk offices. If you have an interest in Connecticut this is great as you can go through the VR books yourself checking for records. Here in NY I have to send a request in along with a check and hope someone bothers to do the lookup so I really appreciate being able to sit there and go through the VR's myself when I visit Connecticut. If you have no interest in Connecticut then it probably wouldn't matter but if you do have an intereset in New England the CSG membership would be the better buy. 3. HI I know i've asked this before, but lots of old emails have fallen into an abyss, so here goes: Where did the info come from to make up "Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots"? My ancestor's grave is in there, but I can't figure out his service (when/where). He's not in the Patriot index as no one has ever joined the DAR/SAR on his service... His name was John Bradford and he is buried in the Atwood Cemetery in Pelham NH. He's listed as Lt. JB. His brothers served through Salem, NH although all of them were born in Beverly, MA and moved to NH as kids. There are 8 John Bradfords I know of who served. Thanks! 3. I am seeking the birth year, the name of the first wife of my 4th ggfather Richard Martin. Providing Elizabeth was his first child, she was born 1769 and was married to Nicholas Powell ca 1786. There was one son and three known daughters of this marriage. Richard m2 Frances Turner 1783 in Caswell Co NC. They had 3 children together: Richard, Jr b 1784, Bitha, and Sarah. Although Richard is on the tax roll in Caswell Co in 1784, he died in Wayne Co NC during the first half of 1786. Richard left a will which also found in Abstracts of the Early Deed of Wayne Co., ND 1780-1793 by Joseph W. Watson.. In Deed Book 4, item #783, p 42 Franky Martin, on 5 Nov 1787, in consideration that Samuel Harrell should take and raise her three children, Richard, Bitha, and Sally Martin, a 150 ac plantation where the said Franky Martin now lives, bing half of the land and plantation formerly belonging to Richard Martin, Dec'd. I would appreciate any help relating to this RW ancestor of mine. Many thanks for the help. Margaret
