Ann Thank you very much for this opportunity. I would love a look-up for Thomas Woodward, a mariner living in Philadelphia, who was a mariner in the Revolutionary War, according to family information. He died in 1805. Robert John Eager was an infantryman and one of Morgan's frontier riflemen. A part of his service record is documented in the Saratoga National Park records. Brig. Gen. James Wood stated that he knew that he was wounded, sent to hospital, and he never saw him again but was informed that he had died of his wounds. I suppose there are lots of things that just don't get recorded in the craziness of war. Thanks. Hi everyone, I have been trying to find out how to get information about an ancestor who was in the French and Indian War, in Virginia. Does anyone know where those records are? Thanks, Sandy
This is a long shot, but FDR (the President) (the "D" was for "Delano", his mom's maiden name) was a SAR through their NY chapter. His application is probably on file with the National Society; his original application through the New York Society was recently donated on permanent loan by the Empire State Society to the NY State Library and Archives in Albany. (We also permanently loaned all our "valuable old documents" to the NY Archives, including the original applications and of Theodore Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller, Cecil B. DeMille, Chauncey DePew, Walter F. Chrysler, etc.) Good luck. Logan M. Hugh wonders why family lore states Nicholas Cunningham served 7 years with Washington, but he is not shown in rosters at Valley Forge. You don't give much to go on, but say further that of the Valley Forge lists, >>None were for a Nicholas and none were in the 2nd MA. John was in the 2d Artillery (MA).<< The 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, Continental should not be confused with the 2nd Continental Artillery. The latter was recruited from several states. The John Cunningham you mention was from Massachusetts, Henry Cunningham of the 2nd Artillery was from CT and William of the 2nd Artillery was from NY. If you have reason to believe that your Nicholas was in the 2nd MA Continental Regiment there could be many reasons he was not at Valley Forge. Have you looked in _Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War_? If he was in the 2nd MA Continental his history should be shown--perhaps he transferred to a different unit, perhaps (as was the case with other Regiments) the Regiment was divided into different duty posts and Nicholas' company was elsewhere. But there's no point guessing. Look it up! The above multi-volume work is in most major libraries. If you look in Rootsweb's Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness, you may find someone willing to do lookups in this work (it's not something most folks have at home, so would involve a special trip to a library). Good hunting, Judy

Iris wants to know why Zebedee Delano was listed with service in 1775 but not at Valley Forge. There is no point in guessing. Have you looked in _Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors of the Revolutionary War_? That series really caught almost all of those with Continental, State and Militia service. An entry for him would show whether he was badly wounded, transferred to a different unit, etc. These volumes can be found in major libraries. If he is listed in the DAR Patriot Index then some woman in the past entered DAR under his service. You can write the DAR for the application papers that cost $10. The DAR web site tells you how to do this, or you can go to the DAR query board on Rootsweb under topics/Organizations and Societies, where numerous responses to queries give details on how to get the application papers. Good hunting, Judy
Personally, I probably wouldn't worry about that 1929 application. I haven't had much luck with older applications; the information on them is usually pretty sketchy.
