We got four guys together with a four-wheeler a little over a month ago with the new stone strapped on the front, but the ditch which had to be crossed was too steep for the four-wheeler. It would have turned over! So we had to take the stone and the four-wheeler back home that day. On a second try, a week or so later, some of our guys helped get boards across the ditch and with another 4-wheeler, took the stone across the deep ditch and around the side of the hill. Apparently when that new house was built there (behind the Pentecostal Church) the original road to the cemetery was done away with. Now it is only accessible by foot, and of course it was too steep to carry a 240 pound granite stone. But we got it done! I know you are glad that Thomas F. Amburgey now has a new Confederate marker showing his service in the 5th Kentucky Infantry, and I hope you will be able to visit the cemetery in the future. At present I don't have a scanner, so I won't be able to get pictures to you. We set stones almost every day (this week two in Perry County and two in Laurel County) - and because most of our guys work - we usually have to throw something together the night before - in terms of planning when and where we are setting stones. Next week we will be working in Floyd, Breathitt and Magoffin County. As of today we have set 360 Confederate markers, have 41 on the ground ready to set, and another 62 on order. I have recently ordered a stone for Ambrose A. Amburgey in Knott County - and we are currently researching the burial site of Jesse Amburgey - both are on Main Carr. Write me anytime. Sincerely, Faron Sparkman Col. Ben Caudill Camp --------------244B7594D4F18822D3B48E50--
