Let me try this again, with a little further explanation. I have set the lists to private for YOUR protection. It just keeps people from sending junk email to you through the mail lists. For those of you who were with us when we were wiped out on MAISER from junk mail, you will understand this decision. The same junk mailer that killed the maiser server has struck again on the rootsweb server. I could have waited until you were inundated with 'spam' but decided to be a little proactive. So for those of you who are suddenly jumping all over me for making the lists private--no all the facts first. By making the lists private all I am asking is for someone to send on little email and subscribe before posting. I AM NOT EXCLUDING ANYONE FROM DOING THIS. ALL I AM DOING IS USING A LITTLE CONTROLL--FOR YOUR PROTECTION. If you wish to leave any of my lists because of this, then its your lose. If you think I'm a little hot about this, then you are right. Some of the list I manage have been hit by a notice for a new website. These family forum websites have been set up for all of the lists on rootsweb. I won't go into all the hoopla this website has caused amongst the list owners. But I will caution all of you against sending information to these websites. It is believed by some that this information may someday be used for commercial purposes. I have no proof that this is the case, but in discussion with others I consider to be good sources I have been told that this might be the case. DO NOT believe that just because this information was send out via the list that it is endorsed by me or rootsweb. It is NOT. I am researching my Ruble line. They came from Bavaria Germany. AUlrich Ruble is suppose to have come ca 1710 and a Balus Ruble circa 1960. They were in Pennsylvania when they first came over. Balus was suppose to have been in Bucks County. If you know any thing about either of these I would sure appreciate it or if you know where I can write to find it. So far I have not seen any, but the sames spammer that crashed maiser has been at work on Rootsweb. If you should receive any junk email on the lists, please do not respond to the list. There is plenty being done behind the scenes and everyone is aware of the problem. As a precaution I have asked rootsweb to not allow mail to the lists I manage unless the person is subscribed.
