Hi Amburgey Cousins It has come to my attention that the new Governor of Kentucky, Ernie Fletcher, is an Amburgey Cousin. His Mom is Ella Marie Amburgey Fletcher. Ella Marie is the daughter of Walter Jerman Amburgey and Eliza Myrtle Bates. Walter is the s/o Franklin "Frank" Amburgey and Susan Alice Rogers. Linda, I'm forwarding your letter to a brother of Martha Carson to answer. It is the first time I've heard of the Kate Smith relationship. It will be interesting to learn more about it. The family is musically inclined and one branch uses the (stage) surname of Chapel but they are really Amburgeys. Happy hunting! Irene Amburgey (Martha Carson) was the daughter of Robert Humphrey Amburgey and Gertrude Quillen. She had two sisters that were also singers, Bertha (Minnie O'Neil) and Opal Jean (Jean Chapel). She also had a brother that sang, Lloyd Franklin (Don Chapel). Robert Humphrey was a brother to my Grandfather, William Riley Amburgey, m. Sabrina Franklin.
