    2. George "Elijah" Allwein is the son of Philip Allwein and Elizabeth Arentz Allwein Manuscript G. ELIJAH, - son of Philip and Elizabeth (Arentz) Allwein was born on his father's farm in Lebanon, PA November 3, 1833. After leaving school he learned trade of Cabinetmaker. On October 27, 1856 he married Angeline, daughter of Jacob and Hannah Arentz and moved to Lebanon, PA where he done hauling for Philip Arnold for a short period. Soon after he purchased a farm of about forty acres in North Lebanon Township about five miles Northeast of Lebanon. He moved on the premises, working at the Lebanon car shops in connection with farming for some years. July 14, 1875 his wife Angeline died. In 1876 he erected a new house on farm and three years later retired and moved with family, in April, to Sweet Home, Lebanon, PA. In 1899 he opened a retail grocery store and carried on the Grocery and Provision business. After leaving farming sold same to E. Eberhart. He now owns a number of properties along turnpike where he lives. Evening Report Saturday October 2, 1909 ELIJAH ALLWEIN DIED AT AGE OF 76 SOON FOLLOWS A BROTHER IN DEATH HERE THERE ARE TEN SURVIVING CHILDREN WHO REMAIN TO MORN HIS DEMISE. Elijah Allwein, a retired farmer, of No. 41 East Cumberland street, died early this morning after a lingering illness of a complication of ailments, aged 76 years and eleven months. His wife died many years ago. He is survived by the following children, ten in number: CHILDREN SURVIVING Charles, of Reading; Pierce, Philip, Katharine, Margaret, Mrs. Jerome Arnold, Mary, Sarah, Jennie and Stephen, the latter proprietor of a grocery store at No. 41 East Cumberland street. BROTHER DIED LAST WEEK Adam Allwein, of Lancaster, and Henry Allwein, of Lebanon, are brothers and Mrs. Joseph Gouldin, wife of the congressman from the Eleventh Congressional District, New York, is a sister. Another brother, Edward Allwein, died this week and was interred only on Friday. The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Lebanon Daily News, Lebanon, PA Monday Evening October 4, 1909 ALLWEIN-In Lebanon on the 10th inst. Elijah Allwein age 75 years 10 months and 29 days. Funeral on Tuesday, at 8:30 o'clock from his late Residence 43 East Cumberland Street. Services at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends all invited to attend without further notice. Lebanon Daily News Tuesday Evening October 5, 1909 ELIJAH ALLWEIN BURIED SERVICES CONDUCTED BY FATHER CHRIST IN ST. MARY'S CHURCH Rev. Father Adam Christ, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church, this morning at nine o'clock officiated a funeral services held over the body of the late Elijah Allwein of this city. The obsequies were held from the Allwein residence, on East Cumberland street, and were largely attended by relatives and friends. Burial was made on St. Mary's cemetery. The pallbearers were: John Loehle, Charles Arnold, Darius Greth, John A. Arnold, Albert Shaak and William Booser. P. H. Thompson was the undertaker. CHRIST OFFICIATING The funeral of the late Elijah Allwein was held this morning from his late home on Cumberland street, east of Front. Services were held in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rev. Adam Christ officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Charles V. Arnold, Albert Schaak, John Adam Arnold, John F. Loehle, William Boose, Darius Gress. P. H. Thompson was funeral director.
