William is the son of Clement Henry Allwein and Grace O. Bright The Daily News Wednesday February 1, 1995 William E. Allwein, 68, of 322 S. Eighth St., Lebanon, died Sunday, January 29, 1995, in the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the husband of Kathryn J. Shirk Allwein. Born in Lebanon on Jan. 30, 1926, he was a son of the late Clement and Grace Bright Allwein. He was a retired employee of the Bethlehem Steel Corp., having worked in the 10-inch mill. Prior to the he had been a deliveryman for Wengert and Hershey Dairies. A graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School class of 1944 , he was one of 10 in his class to enlist in the military in January 1944. He served in the Navy Armed Guard on a Liberty ship in the pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters Jane, wife of Gordon Link, Lancaster, Stephanie, wife of Thomas Gahres, Robesonia, Patricia, wife of Paul Garrigan, Elizabethtown, Ann Marie, wife of Kevin Shallcross, Bloomfield, N. J., and Jackie, wife of David Booth, Jr., Annville; four grandsons; five granddaughters; sisters Jeanette Tribely, Greenville, Marjorie Falk, Lebanon, and Mary Calhoun, Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews. Eighth St., Lebanon, was celebrated Wednesday, February 1, 1995, in St. Mary's Church. He was the husband of Kathryn Allwein. The Rev. Daniel Powell, assistant pastor of the church, was the celebrant. Interment was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Donnie Peffley, Dick Peffley, Joseph Agresta and William F. Allwein serving as pallbearers. Military rites were provided at graveside by the Lebanon VFW. Thompson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
