Sullivan born June 1876 Married Mary Jane Zweier born Feb 21, 1882 She is the daughter of John Zweier and Agnes Catharine Allwein. Lebanon Daily News Thursday Evening June 20, 1929 PATRICK F. SULLIVAN, AGED 19, DROWNED AT KIWANIS BEACH While Bathing on Wednesday Afternoon--Body Recovered by Dragging Dam With Rope--Efforts Made by Y.M.C.A. Physical Instructor Harold Walmer and Others to Resuscitate Unfortunate Lad Proved Futile. Patrick Francis Sullivan, aged 19, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sullivan, of No. 1 Walnut street, was downed under most pathetic circumstances, at the Kiwanis Bathing Beach, at Ebenezer dam, Wednesday afternoon. The lad, who was employed as a knitter at the full fashioned hosiery mills of the Lebanon Mills, Inc. at Second and Weidman streets, left his home about 1:30 o'clock on a bathing expedition to get relief from the heat. He had originally intended to go to the pool at the Lebanon Bathing Casino with tow of his sisters, but changed his plans when he learned that other employees of the knitting mill, on the night shift, were going along to the dam at Ebenezer, and there met Robert and Joseph Shoemaker, neighbors. The trio, in common with scores of other bathers--many of them hosiery mill employees, disported themselves in the dam for an hour or more, when Sullivan crawled out on the bank to rest. The Shoemaker boy placed the time as about 3 o'clock, when he was last seen alive, an they spoke to him about that time. As he was not seen it was assumed he had gone to a clump of shade trees for shelter from the hot rays of the sun, to take a nap, and his absence was not given any deep concern until about 4:30 o'clock, when his companions noted that it was time to go home for supper and to get ready to go to work on the night shift. A search failed to locate him around the place, and then the dam was looked to only half heartedly, of course, for no one really believed that he had drowned since many were present and no one had noted an accident. Nevertheless, when he could not be found anywhere on land, diving by those present was abandoned to a more intensive search of the dam through the medium of "dragging" with a rope. This was necessitated by the fact that messengers sent to his home returned with information that he was not there, and members of the dam hurried to the beach to assist in the search. The body was located and brought to the of about 12 feet of water about 6:15 o'clock. Relatives and friends assert that Sullivan was little more than a beginner as a swimmer, and it is figured that when re re-entered the water unnoticed,he was suffocated by a mouthful or two of water. He was a self reliant young fellow, his friends say, and he probably expected to handle himself with aid, and therefore made no outcry. James O'Donnell, manager of the beach, and several others who brought the body to land, were assisted by Harold Walmer, Physical and swimming instructor of the Y.M.C.A., in restorative experiments but without avail. They stated that little water could he taken from the body. Later, at McGovern's undertaking establishment, where the body was prepared for burial by direction of the father, more water was pumped from the lungs and the stomach, but not in excessive amount. The unfortunate lad was born in this city, December 23, 1910, and was therefore nearing his nineteenth birthday anniversary. His mother was the former Mary Zweier, of this city. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church, and was a graduate of St. Mary's catholic parochial school. Class of 1926. He was identified with a number of the church societies, and also with Lebanon Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles. Besides his parents, he leaves five brothers and four sisters--James, Joseph, Richard, Thomas, George R., Margaret, Isabelle, Mary and Anita, all at home. In the temporary absence from the city of Coroner Manbeck, Deputy Coroner Clarence F. Hill released the body, and after an investigation later in the evening and this morning, Coroner Manbeck issued a certificate assigning accidental drowning as the cause of death.
