    3. Hi Nancy, The ALWINE FAMILIES OF YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA AND SURROUNDING AREAS, by Michael Lau, lists Mary Anna as a daughter of Samuel and Susanna (Stormbach) Alwine, as follows: Mary Anna, born Feb. 24, 1843, died Aug. 29, 1879, married Samuel Sterner (b. 1847) on January 7, 1873. The same document lists *another* Anna as the daughter of Conrad and Mary Ann (Shaffer) Alwine, born 1845, but with no further information. I have seen here listed elsewhere as Anna Mary. Samuel and Conrad Alwine were brothers, the sons of Conrad and Susanna (Eckenroth) Alwine. The two women in question, thus, would have been first cousins. This appears to be consistent with the Jerome ALLWEIN genealogy. I haven't checked the original sources for the accuracy of this information, but if I were you, I would assume these are *TWO* separate individuals and that the FTM material is wrong. The problem with sources like FTM is that unless they give some documentation of the origin of their information, it is difficult to know if it is accurate or not. Lau gives his sources, so it is possible to check them out. I did check further in my file on Conewago Chapel, but I'm afraid I don't have complete documentation. These records list the baptism of "Mary Anna Alwine" daughter of "Samuel & Susan Stormbach Alwine" born 2-24-1843 (book II, p. 49). The baptism took place at Conewago Chapel 5-7-1843 and was witnessed by "Conrad and Mary Anna Alwine." I could not locate the baptism of "Anna Mary Alwine" in my files. I can find the two women (but both referred to as "Mary Anna" Alwine unfortunately) in the Conewago Chapel marriage lists, one of whom married "John J. Yak" and the other married "Samuel Sterner" but I'm afraid my marriage information is incomplete, as I don't have the marriage dates. I'm sure the library at the Adams County Historical Society can help you. Have them look in a book titled "Marriage Records from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Conewago Chapel) 1796-1883," Edge Grove, Adams Co., Pa. Of course, there is always the possibility that there is only one "Mary Anna Alwine" and she married twice. Presumably, a more complete rendering of the Conewago Chapel marriage records would clarify this, though I doubt this possibility, for the following reasons. I looked in the 1850 Census documents for Adams county and there clearly are two individuals. The listing for Conrad Alwine (age 37) gives Mary (age 26), his wife, and two daughters, Anna (age 5) and Caroline (age 2). The listing for Samuel Alwine (age 41),gives Susannah (age 42), his wife, and 8 children, one of whom is Mary Anne (age 7). The ages of "Anna" and "Mary Anne" are consistent with the birthdates given in the Lau document mentioned above. I hope this helps. Good luck.
