Notes for JOSEPH ALLWEIN: Allwein Manuscript. JOSEPH - son of Philip and Barbara (Frantz) Allwein was born on his father's farm March 6, 1810. He learned trade of Tanner. He operated a tannery at Lebanon, PA for sometime but owing to financial difficulties was obliged to close out. His father Philip rendered assistance, taking over the stock of leather etc. on hand and adjusting the claims of his creditors. After this Joseph went to Johnstown, PA where he started in business again, operating a boat line, known as "Bingham's Line" from Johnstown to Pittsburgh, PA.
