Batz Sr., 86, of 1824 Blacks Bridge Road, Annville, died of natural causes Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in East Hanover Township, Lebanon County. He was the husband of Bertha Batz. He was born Dec. 13, 1914, in North Cornwall Township, was a farmer, and retired from King Kup Candies in Hershey. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Farmers' Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons James M. Batz and Richard J. Batz, both of Annville, and Joseph W. Batz Jr. of Hummelstown; daughters Marion Kush of Latrobe and Shirley A. Zserai of Annville; brothers Adam Batz of Pottstown and Robert Batz of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Batz, and brothers Edward Batz, Herbert Batz, Hiram Batz, Paul Batz and Andrew Pyles. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Rothermel Funeral Home, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, preceded by a viewing/visitation beginning at 2.
