My source was an email from Mary Boehnlein (MMBoehn@aol.com). Here is what she provided. In Dauphan County, the birth records spell his name John Allwein, but his marriage record spells the name Allwine. (Alwin means old friend). John Felix Allwine was born in Berg Twp. Dauphan County PA, 5/9/1805 of Johnnes Allwein and Elizabeth Felix. She was born in PA 7/18/1779 daughter of Stephanus and Maria Machtlona Felix. Stephanus and Maria were married in 1774. John Felix Allwine married Mary Teresa Brooks in Lancaster, PA June 30, 1827.(I have info on Mary Brooks and family as well) John and Mary moved to Tiffin, Ohio with most of their children, although some stayed behind in PA. The Felix and Allwines were related and this couple were distant cousins. They had 5 children, Catherine, Susanne, Elizabeth, Henry, and Ludwig-these are children of Elizabeth's parents- Stephaus and Maria.. For those of you that are interested in this Conrad Allwein was a soldier who served in Captain Shradle's Co. 3rd Battalion of the Berks Co. Militia 1777-1778. Found at the Pa. Archives 3:6: 275-322 1st, 2nd & 3rd Battalion, Berks Co. Rev. War 1777-1778. I had that Conrad was a Rev soldier & the name of his company but didn't know where I got it. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. George H. Rost officiated at the nuptials. Double ring rites were used. The church was decorated with palms, ferns and pew markers. Mrs. Helen Katos was the organist. Mr. and Mrs. James E. Allwein, of 3 Walnut St. are the bride's parents. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Greenawalt of 915 Thru St. Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride was seen in a floor length gown of peau de sole. Two panels of lace accented the front of the gown and lace trimmed the collar and cuffs. A matching camelot cap held in place her veil. The bride carried a bouquet of gladioli. Mrs. Judith A. Greenawalt, sister of the bride, was the matron of honor. The bridesmaid was Miss Georgetta F. Burkey. They wore gowns styled with green and gold velvet on ivory tapestry skirts and ivory crepe bodices. Their headpieces were matching dior bows. baskets of yellow and bronze pompons were carried by the attendants. Miss Burkey made both her own gown and the honor attendant's Gene Galbraith was the best man. The ushers were David Werner and Daniel W. Greenawalt, brother of the groom. A reception for 125 guests is being held at the Quentin Riding Club. The couple will make their home in Lebanon following a wedding trip to Cape may, N. J. The double ring rite took place during a Nuptial Mass at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Officiating at the ceremony was the Rev. Cletus Wagaman. Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Kreiser of 630 Pine St., Lebanon, are the bride's parents. The groom is the son of Mrs. Annie Allwein of 426 N. Sixth St., Lebanon, and the late Paul Allwein. BROTHER ESCORT The bride was escorted to the altar by her brother, Richard K. Kreiser. She was seen in a gown of white cotton brocade. It was styled with a bateau neckline, elbow length sleeves and a controlled floor length skirt. The gown was highlighted by a detachable chapel length train. her veil of illusion was held in place by a white brocade pillbox. The bride carried a Missal topped with bronze and yellow pompons. Mrs. Frances Rudegeair was the matron of honor. She was attired in gold brocade with a matching pillbox. A basket filled with yellow mums, bronze pompons and fall foliage was carried by the honor attendant. BRIDESMAIDS The bridesmaids were Mrs. Emma Phillips and Mrs. Janet Kreiser. The latter is the bride's sister-in-law. Kelly green brocade gowns and matching pillboxes were worn by the bridesmaids. They carried baskets filled with bronze mums, yellow pompons and fall foliage. Richard Rudegeair was the best man. Serving as ushers were James Allwein, brother of the groom, and Kenneth Norton. Mrs. Helen Katos was the organist. The soloist was Mrs. Doris Foster. Decorating the church were palms, ferns, white satin pew markers and the bridal carpet. The altar vases were filled with yellow pompons, bronze mums and fall foliage. RECEPTION A reception for 200 guests was planned to follow the ceremony at the Ebenezer Fire hall. The newly weds are taking a wedding trip to New York City and the New England states. "Pete" Allwein, 68, of 2045 Weavertown Road, Lebanon, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, in the Good Samaritan Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy I. Kreiser Allwein. Born in Lebanon, on July 9, 1928, he was a son of the late Paul and Annie Shay Allwein. He retired from Quaker Aloy Co. of Myerstown after 30 years and was a part-time watchman at the Lebanon Municipal building. He was an Army veteran and a member of the church of St. Cecilia. He was a 1947 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Richard B. Allwein of Grantville, Jame E. Allwein of Jonestown, and William C. He was the husband of Mary Lou Shay Allwein. Born in Lebanon on Oct., 1, 1924, he was a son of the late Paul and Annie Shay Allwein. He was a graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School and graduate in 1950 from Lebanon valley College with a degree in chemistry. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a chemist, employed by Handy and Harmon, American Chemical and Refining Co. and a member of St. John The Evangelist Church, where he was a eucharistic minister and member of the St. John's School Board. He was a member of the American Society for Testing materials. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons John H. Allwein of Westford, Mass., and James J. Allwein of Newton; daughters Mary Beth Martin of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and Jane Amenta of Wallingford; brothers Paul J. Sister Ann Louise Allwein is the daughter of Paul Aloysius Allwein and Anna L. Shay. Paul Aloysius Allwein is the son of Pierce W. Allwein and Agnes E. Arnold. The Daily News Saturday May 28, 1983 NUN NAMED COORDINATOR Sister Ann Louise Allwein, ASC, a native of Lebanon, has been named provincial coordinator the Columbia Adorers of the Blood of Christ through 1986. The announcement came from the order's general superior in Rome, where sister will attend a general assembly in June and July. She is a daughter of the late Paul and Anna Shay Allwein, Lebanon, and was a member of St. Mary's Parish. A 1942 graduate of Lebanon Catholic High School, she entered the community of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ at St. Joseph's Convent in Columbia in 1944. Following her initial training, Sister was assigned to serve as secretary to the bishop of Raleigh, N.C., for eight years. She then pursued courses in education at Carlow College and Youngstown University and taught school in Chicago, McKeesport, Albany, GA., and Niles, Ohio. Sister has been in Lebanon visiting the families of Mrs. Paul Sattazahn and James and Pierce Allwein, and a family reunion has been planned this weekend to bid her bon voyage. Hello Cousins! Today I received a clipping of Stella I. George, died March 24, 2000, from the Harrisburg Patriot Newspaper and it list names of her family. Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Dechert of Fredericksburg and Joyce Dechert and Connie Santana, both of Lebanon; two sons, Donald and Glenn, both of Lebanon; four sisters, Bessie Heilman of Palmyra, Esther Westhafer of Cleona, Catherine Gerstner of Lebanon and Mabel Bixler of Jonestown.
