Clark Wissler author of "Indians of the United States' indicates that the Alabama/Tombigbee river system was a boundry . To the west the major tribes were theChoctaws and the Chickasaws; to the east the Creeks and Seminoles. This would suggest that Wilcox County probably was Creek and/or Seminole territory prior to the relocation to Indian Territory in the 1830's and the retreat of the Seminoles into the Everglades about the same time.
