    1. Re: [ALWILCOX-L] Where is/was location of Black's Bluff
    2. Hello - I have a book entitled "Place Names in Alabama" and according to this book Black Bluff is in Sumter County. The entry for Black Bluff also said to see "Whitfield". For Whitfield the entry says " Settlement with discontinued PO at 323155NO880525W in Sumter County. First known as Black Bluff, the translation of sakti 'bluff' and lusa 'black', the Indian name of the Tombigbee River bluff on which it is located. Renamed for the family of J.G. Whitfield, and early settler. PO est in 1885. Hope this helps.

    3. "Blacks Bluff" in Wilcox County is 2 miles west of the intersection of State Road 41 and County Road 12, and about 11 miles SW of Camden. My GF L.D. Harrison was born there. > -----Original Message----- > From: BBrugh1019@aol.com [mailto:BBrugh1019@aol.com] > Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2003 7:09 PM > To: ALWILCOX-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [ALWILCOX-L] Where is/was location of Black's Bluff > > > Hello - I have a book entitled "Place Names in Alabama" and > according to this > book Black Bluff is in Sumter County. > > The entry for Black Bluff also said to see "Whitfield". > > For Whitfield the entry says " Settlement with discontinued PO at > 323155NO880525W in Sumter County.
