But the Williams name is so vast and scattered. My GGrandfather was Alix or Alex Williams. He was a Methodist minister. He married Marthena McCrae or McCray and had several children, two of whom were adopted. I'm still gathering info on the children. My Grandfather was James, and I know he had a brother, Butler Williams. Both were ministers. Does this help any?

    3. Ms. Dickson, If you are still on this list, please respond to me privately regarding the family of James Morgan and Eliza Sheffield. My notes indicate a Pvt. James O. Smith does appear on Microfilm roll M376 in Co. A of the 38th but with only a reference envelope with his name;however upon further examination the original handwritten muster roll of June 12, 1863 does show a J. C. Smith age 33. This would have him born in 1830. Most public LIbraries don't have the microfilm rolls of Ala. servicemen, only Birmingham or the state Archives and Wallace College in Hanceville, AL.

However I checked the National Park Service's Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System (CWSS) at http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ for James C. Smith and found five in the following CSA Infantry Regiments: 9th Regiment, Alabama Infantry 10th Regiment, Alabama Infantry 19th Regiment, Alabama Infantry 38th Regiment, Alabama Infantry 57th Regiment, Alabama Infantry The one in the 38th was in Company A. The muster roll for that company is at http://www.mindspring.com/~mccabe/38thAla/38thAlaA.htm It shows J.C. Smith joined in Clarke County at the age of 33. The muster roll date and location is given as June 12, 1862 at Camp Holt near Mobile, Alabama. For Smith's full military record, go to your local public library's genealogy department and look on microfilm M374 roll 41.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DU.2ADE/505 Message Board Post: I'm searching based on several clues for Neil McMillan in Wilcox Co. A Neil McMillan living in Camden is mentioned as a brother of Judge Archibald A. McMillan of Coosa Co, AL. Mention is made that both survived the flux epidemic of 1842 as did a sister in Coosa Co (Mrs Graham). Another sister, Mrs. Alexander Smith, died in the epidemic. (History of Coosa County, AL, by Rev. Brewer) Agatha McMillan in her Widow's application for a War of 1812 Pension stated they moved from NC "to GA in 1819, to AL in 1822 & to FL in 1827 & back to AL in 1832 & to TX in 1850." This family has been found only in the 1830 Walton Co, FL Census & the 1850 Lauderdale Co, MS, Census. They did go to Madison Co, TX, in November 1850. Are there many records available in Wilcox County for the time period 1832 - 1850? Is it possible to find more records for Wilcox 1832-1850 in Montgomery? I'm planning a trip to Alabama soon. Thanks for any help you can give me.

This information was taken from the LDS microfilmed record of the deed logs for Wilcox County. They did not micro film the actual deeds. I was told that there was an explosion of the heating system and the files were not replaced in their previous location and that they are in no order. I have minutes form the circuit court in 1835 of the settlement of the estate of Jesse Council Bethea and it appears that his land was sold to satisfy debts. His widow Elizabeth Henry Bethea married Daniel B McMillian on 12 March 1836 in Wilcox County. I do not know when she died but it was before 1856 as she is recorded as being dead on the family tree drawn by her brother Judge John Kelly Henry Jr in 1856. I am always willing to share any information that I discover but I have very little on Daniel B. McMillian. Dave
