    3. Hi, Cousin Joseph ~ thanks for the reminder of the films at Wallace State. I used those before I learned about the ones in B'ham since I'm much closer to B'ham. I've found that having the index and listing the certs you need to find beforehand saves a lot of time when you get to Wallace or B'ham - your search info is already before you and sometimes I've found that more than one certificate is on the same roll when scanning the dates If making your own copies at the FHC in B'ham the copies are ten cents each. At Wallace they use the honor system, also, and I think they request about the same amount per copy. Unless the person is a direct line ancestor I just write the info while it is on the reader rather than making a copy. Caroline [ The index of death certificates from 1908 to 1959, Alabama Death Certificates, has been put on microfilm and is in the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History, online at Ancestry.com for members, and available at many LDS Family History Centers.] [If you can get the information about a death certificate from that index, you can also obtain a copy of the certificate from Suzette Cook at http://alabamadeath.tripod.com/. Her web site covers the information she needs to locate the copies at the LDS Center in Birmingham. Susette Cook, who runs the site, is a FHC volunteer and will provide copies (not > certified ) for $3 each. I know of many who have used her service.] Caroline Hamilton Horton [ From: "Joseph T. Richardson" > Wallace State College's genealogy library in Hanceville also has microfilm of the original records (as well as the index) for free. Although in my experience, a fair number of the rolls, especially some of the oldest ones, have poor image quality (I'm not sure whose fault that is).]
