    1. Re: [ALWALKER] Minerva's Heritage?

    3. I only wondered if Minerva, wife of William Kilgore, was a Blackburn only because of their proximity to John Blackburn and wife named Penina, same as Minerva's daughter, on the 1850 census inWalker Co., AL. The chances are that Blackburn's wife, Penina, was related to this Kilgore family in some way, either to William or Minerva. On the other hand, she was possibly only a good friend to Minervia, who desided to name a daughter for her dear friend. It happens, but usually children are named after family or else someone famous. At this time, we don't know the maiden name of Blackburn's wife, Penina. She could have been a Kilgore or a Patton, but somehow related. Usually there is a family connection when an unusual name appears. I have not located a Penina anywhere else, have you? I noted that Penina Kilgore patented her own land in 1860 in her own maiden name. While not common, it is not uncommon for single women to do so. I also noted that James Russell, was previously married before marrying Penina Kilgore. He was on the 1860 census in Walker Co., AL, with first wife, identified only as "M" and two children, a son, William R. Russell and a daughter, identified only as "M.A.". This daughterr was probably the Ann Russell, daughter, with James Russell and Penina on the 1880 census in Fayette Co., AL. Has anyone located Penina Kilgore on the 1860 census? I haven't checked this out. Also 1870 census. It would be interesting to locate a marriage record for both couples: James Blackburn and his Penina and William Kilgore and his Minerva.
