Previously written: . . . are over 100 known Pattons buried in Patton's Chapel Cemetery. There 145 unmarked graves which probably date back to the beginning of the cemetery. . . . when was the beginning of the Patton Hill Cemetery? I hope to visit next month and I will go tombstone hunting! Paula According to "Historical Atlas of Alabama" there are two Patton Cemeteries. . . . 'original Patton cemetery was destroyed by road construction; at one time as many as 25 graves were located here; the grave of ANDREW PATTON (1772-1806) is the only stone remaining'. T15S, R6W, Sec.26 [could not locate on map but still in south of county] Patton Hill Baptist Church; approx 600 marked and 177 unmarked graves; first known interment: NEWT PATTON (1820-1885); Baker, Davidson, Earnest, Frost, Kimbrell, Nelson, Patton, Smith, Thacker and Woods are common to the cemetery still in use. T15S, R9W, Sec.23 [S/W of Oakman] This series of county maps, historical places and cemetery names and locations can be ordered from the Univ. of Ala. Cartographic Dept. at http://www.as.ua.edu/geography/cartlab/publications/index.html . Scroll down to "Historical Atlas, etc.". go to "printable order form" and you'll see that you can order only the counties about which you are interested. When ordering by county the book is spiral bound and very sturdy. Also, a county map of Walker can be ordered from the state highway dept. in Montgomery. http://www.dot.state.al.us/Docs/Bureaus/Equipment/General+Maps.htm These maps are a must when finding your way around a county and show location of most cemeteries.
