CONNECTED SURNAMES: BAKER - BARNETT - BROGDEN - CHRISTIAN - CONNOR - CRANFORD - CUNNINGHAM - EVANS - FROST - HOCUTT - ODEN - LAWRENCE - PENDLEY - RUSHING - SANDERS - WILKES - MANY OTHERS I saw the following in a book on this family in the library. I don't recall the author. I have a JENKINS line; but this turned out not to be the same line although both JENKINS lines definitely have Indian blood lines and might have been connected earlier in South Carolina. I have added to the author's data extensively. LEWIS WILLIAM JENKINS, SR.. was born November 15, 1786, GA and died January 27, 1874, Berry, Fayette Co., AL. Served as a private in the War of 1812 until 14 March 1815. He married MARY ANN SANDERS, born 1786; died August 30, 1855, Berry, Fayette Co., AL. He is said to have died after contacting smallpox from his son, LEWIS WILLIAM JENKINS, JR., who survived the disease.. Both were buried in the Jenkins Family Cemetery, near Berry, Fayette Co., AL. (I noted that although wife was said to have died in 1855, I noted she was not enumerated with him on the 1850 census in Fayette Co., AL, Sheet 81, page 162, Family #359, five years earlier)?? It is not known if he was related to the ELIAS JENKINS who entered federal land in Fayette Co., AL, on 21 March 1821. He was speculated to be a son of Richard JENKINS, born 1761 in Virginia, who moved from Pennsylvania to Georgia, then into South Carolina. He had two sons living near him in Morgan Co., AL - Lewis William JENKINS, Shepherd JENKINS, and a married daughter, Rosanna JENKINS who married Elijah BARNETT. Alledged father, Richard JENKINS was listed in 1816 on the Mississippi Territory census (which included what would become the State of Alabama), according to an E-mail message I received from Betsey Dill in 2005. She stated that also on the census was Thomas FROST. Richard has signed a petition in the Alabama Teritorial papers also asking to remain on Indian lands since crops were already planted. Betsy said that EDWARD FROST was also on the list ot the SIMS settlement, Doubleheads reserve. As she recalled, there were other JENKINS men who signed the same petition. (Betsy is a descendent of Jane "Jennie" Jenkins, who married Edmond FROST after first having a son, LEVI, out of wedlock in Morgan Co., AL.) thanks I kind of thought my ggg grandfather Lewis was born out of wedlock, I've never been able to find much out about that. He married Susan, Greenberry his 2nd oldest said his mother Name was Frost that's what his oldest son Daniel put on his death certificate. I have not been able to find anything to that fact. Edward Benton had a family bible I believe but not sure that is said to have that info in it. In 1880 Levi was 18 and Greenberry was 11 so that would have made him born around 1868 and Levi was born around 1862. Greenberry married Letta in 1890 I found their wedding certificate it was a probate judge who married them. They had Daniel Jacob 14 June 1892 Annie Marie 1894 Mary Ellen 25 September 1900 before going west to Oklahoma. There they had the rest of their children. I have started a web page from the informaion I collected. Sincerely Julie Mangum Hedberg On Tue, Jun 9, 2009 at 4:15 AM, Ann S.
