Caroline, The original Patton Cemetery is located just off Alabama 18 highway between Oakman and Corona on the same road as Patton Hill Cemetery. As you turn right off Alabama 18, go through the flat land, begin to climb up a hill toward Patton Hill Cemetery, pass a home on the right with a barn on the other side of the road, slow down and look in the ditch on the right side of the road. There you will see the grave of Andrew Patton. His grave is marked! The other graves that are in this cemetery are underneath the road-bed. I have it listed as # 245 on my Cemetery Map of Walker County. It is listed as the same number in Craig Remington's "Historical Atlas of Alabama, Cemeteries by locations and County". When this new road came through, the county workers placed the road in the wrong place and covered the cemetery. There were about 25 to 30 graves at this location. My map placing cemeteries in correct position by using a GPS. That map was published in 2000 with 304 locations and now I have found a total of 338 cemeteries in Walker County alone. I didn't get out my DOT map when I wrote the above and, as you know, the roads aren't marked in the U of A book (one downfall of that book - that's why you need the DOT map to go along with the other.) Someone on the list had mentioned going to Patton Chapel this summer and I thought my info *might* help. Thanks for you directions. *Your* cemetery map is the one in the Jasper library? I purchased my Atlas in early 2000 - wonder if it has been updated. And how amazing that the one marker hasn't been vandalized! Do you know when the cemetery was destroyed by the workers?
