Paula, I am trying to more info on William Kilgore who was born in 1843/44, probably in Walker Co., I know that he married Rebecca Wyers/Wiers abt 1868 in probably Walker County. Supposedly Rebecca was from Bibb County according to her death certificate. On his death certificate (d.25 Dec 1916), William was listed as a miner, and he had lived in Cordova, Walker Co., AL, for the last 15 years. This information indicates that he moved to Cordova in 1901. He was 72 years old, and his father was listed as Will Kilgore, and his mother was Mary Kilgore (married name I imagine) who was born in SC. I can't find them on any census record until 1910. They were living in Walker County, but did take a wagon trip out west for a few years, but came back around 1901, so that is the reason he had been living in Codova since 1901. I suppose they may have missed the 1900 census due to traveling, but they should have been on the 1870 and 1880 census, but I sure have not been able to find them. Does anybody have any knowledge of this family? Thanks, Davine In a message dated 5/23/2009 1:28:28 P.M. Don't know if this will help or hinder, but I have a William Kilgore married to Sarah Emeline Busbee both from Walker County / Jefferson County. Have no dates but cir. 1840 is about right, I show one male child John L. Kilgore married to Ellen Parker, they had 9 children. The youngest born abt. 1890. So guessing John would have been bornbetween 1865 and 1870. That could mean William may have been born sometime after 1840, but by about 1850? My research is based on our Hancock line. Hancock's SC to Green county abt. 1840. Then to Walker County by 1850 (Tax Rolls). Later to Jefferson County. Both the early Hancock's as well as the early Kilgore's are buried in Shanghi Ebenezer Baptist Church which is just across the Jefferson County Line into Walker County.
