Thats him .... I'll see if my grandmother remembers that as her maiden name. Her memory is still very very good and she remembers a lot of the people who lived in the area. Ima and Alfred were her sister and brother. She told me they moved into Birmingham for a short while so the men could get jobs. Here's an interesting picture http://www.katscelticroots.com/img/phillips01.jpg It's Alfred Phillips and his sister Mabel Phillips Cox .... I don't know what is happening with those outfits ... If anyone on the list lives in Walker County in the Sumiton area and knows Doris Scurlock, Mabel Phillips Cox was her mother. Kat Reece Earl Phillips died 26 Sep 1932 aged 25y 10m 26d Spouse: Jewel Rowe Phillips Father: John B Phillips Mother Lillian Ann Goodwin Source: Alabama Death Record at http://pilot.familysearch.org presumptive siblings Ima and Alfred also have records there The 1930 census shows a matching Phillips family in Birmingham [no Jewels in that family then] Sorry, I haven't any marriage records. My great-Uncle Earl Phillips was born in 1906 and died in 1932. I had always thought he had never married until my Uncle Charles passed away and his wife gave me the family pictures that he had. I was showing them to my grandmother, Martha Elizabeth Phillips Berrey (97 and still kicking!) and she told me it was Earl and his wife Jewel. She doesn't remember Jewel's maiden name and I love to have that information. I'm not sure what year they married, my grandmother believes that they had not been married long when Earl died.
