    3. Hello y'all, Since my mailbox is now being flooded with this wonderful outpouring of excitement for Walker County (every other mailing list I'm subscribed to has been dead for some time), I figured I might as well join the parade. I don't descend from Walker County, but I do love it and have spent a good bit of time there researching. My primary family of interest in the area is DUTTON. There are a few branches of my family in the area: 1. James DUTTON (1807-1885) married Mary IRWIN (c. 1807 -- c. 1880s); they lived south of McCollum at Dutton Hill. 2. Zachariah DUTTON (c. 1821 -- 1864), first cousin of the above; married Mary Emily RUSHING (c. 1833 -- 1896); their descendants lived in the northeastern part of the county, around Powellville, Burrows Crossroads, and Curry. 3. William DUTTON (c. 1824 -- ????), brother of the above; married Martha McDONALD (c. 1826 -- ????); lived near Kansas in Walker County, and eventually strayed over into Texas in Marion County. 4. Isaac BROWN (1845-1915), nephew of the above; married Margaret C. LOLLAR (1844-1923); they lived near Oakman. I'm also peripherally very interested in the following families my Duttons married into: McDONALD, IRWIN, KITCHENS, HAMILTON, SPARKS, BROWN, HOGAN, LOLLAR. And others, too. I have a bit of information on my family online here: http://www.zdutton.org/ If anybody is connected to these families (and especially to the Duttons), I'd love to hear from you. Keep up the great work! Best regards, Joseph T. Richardson

    3. Yes! Elizabeth KITCHENS (the name is spelled Elisebeth on her tombstone), born 22 Aug 1817 in Lawrence County, Alabama, died ca. 1866-1870 (the bottom half of the tombstone is broken off), married on 7 Apr 1836 in Lawrence County, Alabama to Thomas DUTTON, born 4 Dec 1809 in Granville County, North Carolina, died 27 Jun 1887. I believe Thomas to be the brother of James DUTTON who went to Walker County with James Matlock KITCHENS, as part of a large migration of families from Lawrence County in the late 1840s. Two of James's children married HAMILTON children, the children of Harvey William HAMILTON and Mary KITCHENS (Simeon B. DUTTON married Rebecca HAMILTON, and Elizabeth Ann DUTTON married Christopher Columbus HAMILTON), and a third son, George W. DUTTON, married Mary BROWN, daughter of Thomas BROWN (whose sister was Sally BROWN KITCHENS) and Lovey IRWIN (whose sister was Mary IRWIN, George's mother). The DUTTON and KITCHENS families remained very close, and James Matlock KITCHENS mentions several of Thomas DUTTON's children (his grandchildren) in the letter from him that is on file in Jasper. (I'll forward that along again in case others don't have it; it's an amazing find.) I'm especially interested in the KITCHENS family, on account of their close connection to my Duttons. Caroline and I had an adventure a few years ago hunting the grave of James Matlock KITCHENS. Has the grave ever been re-marked? Thomas DUTTON and Elizabeth KITCHENS DUTTON are buried in Friendship Baptist Cemetery, three miles south of Danville, Alabama on the Morgan-Lawrence County line. Here's a list of their children: 1. George DUTTON, born ca. 1837 in Morgan County, Alabama, died ca. 1861-1865 in Civil War — affiliation unknown; never married. 2. Sarah Jane DUTTON, born ca. 1841 in Morgan County, Alabama, died ca. 1919-1920 in Eastland County, Texas; married (1) 5 Feb 1862 in Morgan County, Alabama to Christopher Columbus WITT, (2) 24 Jan 1866 in Morgan County, Alabama to Richard J. TURRENTINE, (3) 10 Jan 1878 in Morgan County, Alabama to Stephen Penn DUTTON. 3. Mary Frances DUTTON, born 22 Aug 1844 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 7 Oct 1877 in Morgan County, Alabama; married 8 Jan 1862 in Morgan County, Alabama to Stephen Penn DUTTON. 4. James H. DUTTON, born 1846 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 28 Dec 1910 in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama; married 18 Sep 1867 in Morgan County, Alabama to Edna E. NANCE. 5. Lavina Presley DUTTON, born 24 Aug 1850 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 30 Mar 1910 in Lawrence County, Alabama; married 30 Sep 1872 in Morgan County, Alabama to James Andrew HOGAN. 6. David F. DUTTON, born 9 Oct 1851 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 9 Oct 1879 in Morgan County, Alabama, buried in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery; never married. 7. John Franklin DUTTON, born 16 Jan 1853 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 4 Jun 1912 in Morgan County, Alabama; married 19 Nov 1874 in Morgan County, Alabama to Piety Ann WILHITE. 8. Alexander J. DUTTON, born 16 May 1856 in Morgan County, Alabama, died 12 Nov 1928 in Morgan County, Alabama; married 19 Sep 1881 in Lawrence County, Alabama to Malinda Susan McCORMICK. 9. William C. DUTTON, born ca. 1859 in Morgan County, Alabama; may have moved to Sebastian County, Arkansas (according to a mention in Dombhart's History of Walker County; no other mention of this has been found). I have more information on this family on my website: http://www.zdutton.org/data/tdutton.html His brother James's family, of Walker County: http://www.zdutton.org/data/jasdutton.html Best regards, Joseph On Fri, May 22, 2009 at 8:59 AM, Delilah <diamond6468@mindspring.com> wrote: > One of the children of Sally BROWN and James Matlock KITCHENS married > a DUTTON.
