    3. Exciting Breaking News - this from Bob Davis at Wallace State: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has made available to the public a free index to Alabama death certificates (1908 to 1974). Before now available indexes only went to 1959. This index includes names of the deceased but also indexes the names of the parents of the deceased. This index is included as part of the LDS project to index its 2.4 million microfilm reels, frame by frame. This index, therefore, already includes much more than just this wonderful index to Alabama death certificates. To access this resource go to Familysearch.org, then go to "Search"; under Search click on "Record Search Pilot." The link is: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start It is easiest to put in surname, then "Alabama, United States", just as typed. You'll "supposedly" get all the Hamiltons, Kitchens, etc., that are on file, beginning with 1908 (when there wasn't much compliance) up to the latest additions. Often the info includes parents' names, sometimes the spouse, cemetery and burial date. No, the certificate itself isn't available, as it is with some states, but the printed info is better than nothing. As with any source that is not "primary", and death certs aren't, even the original, be careful with what you find. I found the wife of Ralph Argo, Flora Fields, listed as "Flisa Fish". 3. Hi Caroline--- So does this mean that Guy Argo went by the name of "Ralph"? Or do I have something linked wrong? I show that Flora Fields did have a son named Ralph who died in 1927?? But I show that Flora Fields(1893-1991) daughter of Robert Felix Fields and Ophelia Elizabeth Phillips was married to Guy Argo (1888-1959) Let me know --- those middle names, nick names etc. can sometimes confuse me---and "Flisa Fish"---one has to wonder if it was the transcriber or the 'southern drawl' By the way---I have heard that compliance for death certificates came with the 1918 Pandemic. Before that, numerous places saw the need, but supposedly after that, they KNEW there was a need.
