    3. Here is good news for Alabama researchers. from Eastman's Online Genealogy Newsletter at http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2009/05/familysearch-record-search-update-2-million-records-added.html ----------begin copy---------- The following announcement was written by FamilySearch: Two million new records were added to the FamilySearch Records Search pilot. The completed statewide deaths index for Alabama was published-over 1.8 million names. This collection covers deaths from 1908 to 1974 . . . These collections can be searched for free at the FamilySearch.org Records Search pilot (click Search Records, and then click Record Search pilot). -----------end copy--------------- The index formerly was from 1908 to 1959. There are not images online but there are some details from the certificates listed, not found on the original index, such as names of spouses, parents, etc. There is a "copy to clipboard" button, making it easy to copy and paste the info. The index also one to limit the search by years and location. I like to enter a surname, year span and location, getting a list with several related persons. Melba Clark

    3. It's a great new free resource---wish it listed more of them with where they were buried. I am thrilled to get this though---the Texas ones have even the original certificates ---maybe someday they will do the ones for Alabama. I must say though---from looking at the ones with all the details in Texas, and the originals, that I have reaffirmed that they are only as good as the informant and that spelling was not a 'strong suit'. If you study in Missouri they also have all theirs on line on the SOS site. I think we can hope that many of these will be published in the future if no one thinks of something rotten to do with them. The ancestry.com magazine had a good article about where these things can be found on the internet (about 2 months ago). As we all know things don't always stay "free" so be sure and take advantage now. By the way, the BGS (Birmingham Genealogical Society) blog is a super place to hear more about bargains and interesting Alabama stuff. Melissa Hogan, the historian, often ferrets out fabulous offers & informative happenings. And then there is the WCGS--Walker County Genealogical Society, Inc. and their membership includes a "myfamily.com" page that is a super blog. And yes, then there is Melba Clark...a super uncousin and fantastic finder of resources!~ Thanks Melba! I do love the way you can make it search a certain county for all the ROBBINS!!
