    3. My John Gant and wife Matilda Knight left Laurens before 1840, were probably in Cobb County GA in 1840, were in St Clair County AL with several children in 1850, and were living in Jefferson County by 1860. Matilda was no longer with the family. Land records show that John was living on land in the Beat Ten area of Walker County between 1850 and 1860. John is said to be buried in Fairview Cemetery in Walker County. I have found a grave that may be John but not sure. Some of his children are buried in Fairview cemetery. Most of his children and some grandchildren lived in Beat Ten and some moved on to Oakman, Parrish. Tuscaloosa County, and Fayette County. I have not been able to establish kin with the Knights in and around Townley. There is another line of Gants who settled near Parrish that I have not yet connected with my Gant line. Charner Knight who may be a brother of Matilda Knight Gant, wife of John Gant, lived in Beat Ten near John Gant's land but had moved to Jonesboro in Jefferson County by 1870. Charner Knight died in Jefferson County. Thanks. Sara Message....
