Any help would be greatly appreciated. Karen Kitchens Murphy Karen, I have corresponded a lot with a Hamilton researcher. Harry Nelms gave a copy of his research to the library in Jasper. He does not think that Columbus was the middle name, either. He said he has no proof of that name and thinks it was "attached" due to the both names copying that of . . . we all know :) I'm sure you have the following. I don't know by whom it was written: Notes from "Kitchens Folder", Jasper Public Library, writer unknown. Christopher Kitchens was born about 1770 in Virginia. He, his wife and one son George migrated from Know County Virginia to Tennessee sometime prior to 1795. Two sons were born in Tennessee. James Matlock was born on August 7, 1796 and John was born in 1810. Christopher, his wife and son John migrated to Jasper, Alabama, sometime prior to 1835. Land grant certificates indicate that John entered land at the present site of Carbon Hill, Alabama, on December 26, 1835. Information taken from the 1840 and 1850 census records of Walker County confirm that at age 80 he and his wife were living with their son, James Matlock, in Jasper, Alabama. Records also show that he was blind. He and his wife died sometime between 1850 and 1860. Note: I can find no record where he lived in Lawrence County, Alabama, although I think he and his son John passed through on their way to Walker County.

    3. I wish when someone wants to respond to a particular issue they would address the individual and not to all members of the web. I am tired of seeing my mailbox kludged with items most members could care less about. I didn't want to cause an "upset". Caroline ****** I am also a descendant of JAMES MATLOCK KITCHENS. My line is from him to his daughter, Mary "Polly" Susan who m. HARVEY WILLIAM HAMILTON. Then to JAMES JACKSON HAMILTON, my paternal grandfather, SYLVANUS HAMILTON and my father, ED HAMILTON. I'll be glad to share what I know about the Kitchens line but much of it came from others such as Karen Murphy. I have some info on the church, etc. I am working on my Vernon line for a reunion of "folks from all over" in B'ham beginning tomorrow (Friday) night so I won't be able to respond re Kitchens until next week.
