    1. [ALWALKER] William Guttery burial site in Luling, TX
    2. Yesterday my husband Steve and I set out to find Old Highsmith Cemetery here in our part of Texas. To make a long story short, we did locate it. An older couple drove us to to a dirt road about .2 miles east of the New Highsmith Cemetery location. We all got out of the car, and they pointed to a tree north of where we were standing and said, "The cemetery is under that tree. It is in bad shape. Watch out for rattlesnakes." So Steve and I climbed up a hill, crossed the railroad tracks, and proceeded north for a few hundred feet until we encountered two fences. We walked along the fenceline until one fence ended in a gate. My husband climbed over a tree to get over the remaining fence. I crawled on my belly under the barbed wire fence. The gate was unlocked--we carefully trekked through the dense brush towards the tree. We did find about ten different headstones, including ones with the Guttery family name on them. I included a photo of oneof the gravestones to help in understanding how overgrown this cemetery is. Finding this gem of a cemetery was certainly worth the fire ant bites and scratches we're enjoying today. Thank you--Wesley Keats--for providing directions to the general area. -- Julie Horrocks Buda, TX

    2. Julie Hedberg
    3. I'm sorry for misspelling your name Bobbye, I know I seen Frances Knight in the books that were sent to my sister last year. But for somereason I can't find it now. I might see if hubby would like to drive up that way for a couple of days but won't promise anything. I so want to get into the archives up there and see what I can find on Lewis Jenkins. The last time I was up there in 2000 I found Letta's and Greenberry's marriage certificate it was in the probate listing, and I think that's where I saw Frances and Mary Knights. Lewis went LWJ from what I heard from family, but that was all second hand information. That side of the family doesn't like to talk, they are scared we might want something from them and to be honest they have nothing I want. John Knight who married Mary Polly Rommie is another story, I can't find nothing on him at all, and I have a few old stories my g ggrandmother Letta told Gary, who was Robert's son, Greenberry and Letta's last born. I was going through land Patent and found John M Knight who file a claim on it looks like 2 pieces of property. Aliquot parts Sec/Block Township Range Fract. Section Meridian St Counties E1/2NE 9/ 11-S 8-w No Huntsville Al Winston W1/2 NW 10/ 11-S 8-W no Huntsville Al Winston The deed said it was N East quater of section 9 and and the west half of the N West quarter of Section ten in township 11. I'm not sure where this is. Sorry this is so long. Julie On Mon, May 25, 2009 at 7:05 PM, <Hjwwilson@aol.com> wrote: > Julie the book is not indexed and there are over 50 pages. 3. Bobbye, thanks for your help on this. I would love to see Mike Knight's Descendncy Charts on the Knights. Glenn Gant and my mother, Clemmie Gant Latham, were first cousins. Most of the Gants have moved away from the Oakman area. Neighbors on both sides of my mother's family's home near Oakman were Blantons (Sam Blanton family). I hope to attend the WCGS meeting on Thursday. Somewhere down the line Julius Arthur Knight married Lortha Ellen McGowan who were the parents of Michael " Mike" Duane Knight. David Knight (b. circa 1810 d. 1892 Alabama) and Therbia Spears Knight came out of S.C. They came thru Perry County, Ga. One child was buried in Cedartown, Ga. They came into Alabama, and they and their descendnets could be found in Cullman Co., Jefferson County,St. Clair and Walker Co.. I have the book of Descendancy Charts on the Knights that Mike did, but he did not do an index. There are over fifty pages. Also, I knew the Glenn Gant family from Oakman.
