We only have to wait another 20 years -- before we get a car that gets 50 miles per gallon.

CONNECTED SURNAMES: BAKER - BARNETT - BROGDEN - CHRISTIAN - CONNOR - CRANFORD - CUNNINGHAM - EVANS - FROST - HOCUTT - ODEN - LAWRENCE - PENDLEY - RUSHING - SANDERS - WILKES - MANY OTHERS I saw the following in a book on this family in the library. I don't recall the author. I have a JENKINS line; but this turned out not to be the same line although both JENKINS lines definitely have Indian blood lines and might have been connected earlier in South Carolina. I have added to the author's data extensively. LEWIS WILLIAM JENKINS, SR.. was born November 15, 1786, GA and died January 27, 1874, Berry, Fayette Co., AL. Served as a private in the War of 1812 until 14 March 1815. He married MARY ANN SANDERS, born 1786; died August 30, 1855, Berry, Fayette Co., AL. He is said to have died after contacting smallpox from his son, LEWIS WILLIAM JENKINS, JR., who survived the disease.. Both were buried in the Jenkins Family Cemetery, near Berry, Fayette Co., AL. (I noted that although wife was said to have died in 1855, I noted she was not enumerated with him on the 1850 census in Fayette Co., AL, Sheet 81, page 162, Family #359, five years earlier)?? It is not known if he was related to the ELIAS JENKINS who entered federal land in Fayette Co., AL, on 21 March 1821. He was speculated to be a son of Richard JENKINS, born 1761 in Virginia, who moved from Pennsylvania to Georgia, then into South Carolina. He had two sons living near him in Morgan Co., AL - Lewis William JENKINS, Shepherd JENKINS, and a married daughter, Rosanna JENKINS who married Elijah BARNETT. Alledged father, Richard JENKINS was listed in 1816 on the Mississippi Territory census (which included what would become the State of Alabama), according to an E-mail message I received from Betsey Dill in 2005. She stated that also on the census was Thomas FROST. Richard has signed a petition in the Alabama Teritorial papers also asking to remain on Indian lands since crops were already planted. Betsy said that EDWARD FROST was also on the list ot the SIMS settlement, Doubleheads reserve. As she recalled, there were other JENKINS men who signed the same petition. (Betsy is a descendent of Jane "Jennie" Jenkins, who married Edmond FROST after first having a son, LEVI, out of wedlock in Morgan Co., AL.) Hi, Ann.....with as many choices in names as there were and with so relatively many fewer people, isn't it a shame that there could be two William Kilgores about the same age?!! My guy is the one shown in the 1850 census, but some of the dates I have are different than yours...also a couple of the children's names...For your William and Mary, I have Dorian and Millissa. My informations says that Mrs. Kilgore, born in Tenn., was a Patton, daughter of John Patton and Sarah Langston Patton. My direct ancestor - or tress - was Elizabeth Kilgore, born in 1836 and died October 25, 1882. She did indeed marry Wiley Davis, son of the Rev. Robert Davis and Zilpah Snow. Wiley Davis was born March 22, 1842 and died June 15, 1905...both buried in Key Hill Cemetery. Their daughter Matilda Davis married John Newton Cannon. Their daughter, Ethel Irine Cannon married Denver Cleveland Covin, my grandfather. Clear as mud?! Wiley E. Kilgore was born in 1837; John in 1839;, Penina R., born August 29, 1836 and died March 15, 1916. She was married to James Wesley Swindle. I'm coming to visit my kin in Walker Co., next week - and to attend the dedication of the Confederate grave marker at the Black Warrior Primitive Baptist Church....my cousin James Blackston was instrumental in getting that marker for his ancestor. I'm so looking forward to it! Thanks. Paula

The name of the Cemetery is Scott Cemetery located between Jasper and Carbon Hill, AL. I can't give you precise directions since the new highway has been built between these sites. Perhaps someone who lives there can provide this. I took a picture of their stones many years ago. DAVIDSON BLACKWELL was born October 8, 1809, Elbert Co., GA; died June 22, 1887, Walker Co., AL. His parents have not been proven; but his mother, NANCY, was living with his brother, JAMES MONROE BLACKWELL, on 1850 census in Walker Co., AL. Their father is still not proven with the problem being there were several widows named NANCY BLACKWELL in Georgia on earlier records in Georgia. All we know is that the father was born in NC. During the time that DAVIDSON and brother JAMES were born in Elbert Co., GA, that county had a series of Tax List where several BLACKWELL's were shown residing there at the time. His name suggests a maiden surname of DAVIDSON in his family tree since it is not a common first name. DAVIDSON married SOPHIA HENRY on May 29, 1832, Carroll Co., GA. She was born 1807; died March 29, 1880, Walker Co., AL. She was also born in Elbert Co., GA, said to be named in will of JAMES ALEXANDER HENRY and SOPHIA REAGAN, listed on 1840 census as ALEXANDER HENRY in earlier census in Elbert Co., AL. I have not seen this will to confirm this. It was probably correct since they named oldest son, ALEXANDER HENRY BLACKWELL. They were shown on 1840 census in Fayette Co., AL; but on 1840 Tax List in Walker Co., AL. Land records shown they were in Walker Co., AL. DAVIDSON BLACKWELL and JAMES MONROE BLACKWELL took the Loyalty Oath after the Civil War which provided both their birthdates and place of birth. DAVIDSON BLACKWELL left family bible records and also a will in Walker Co., AL. We have a common ancestor in DAVIDSON BLACKWELL. Ann S. A Memorial Service for George Blackston pvt. Company L. 29th Regiment Alabama Infantry the services will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at old Black Warrior Cemetary. We had planned on having a short meeting at the First Methodist Church building (our normal meeting location) at 2:30 P.M. and then departing for the cemetery. We have some reenactors and possibly an artillery piece lined up for the service. Although I helped erect the grave marker, my directions are a little sketchy at this time. Maybe everyone could meet at a central location (Say at Oakman or on the Walker-Tusc. Co. line.). Trent M. Harris Adjutant Major John C. Hutto #443 Sons of Confederate Veterans

There are no Dunagen shown in the Homestead book. The latest entry is 1907. But, I would think all the land was homesteaded prior to 1900, but the government did not get around to entering it until several years later. **************We found the real ‘Hotel California’ and the ‘Seinfeld’ diner. I wonder if you have anything on the Dunagan Homestead. My grandparent were there in 1905 And AJ's mom was there before that. Names are Andrew Jackson Dunagan wife Della mom is Lucindia [sp?] Dunagan possibly after 1836 Also if some one has a book or other resources for finding a death I am looking for the date of death for Lucinda I know she died between 1900 and1910. She was on 1900 census but not 1910 AJ Dunagan married Della Baker 1905 Lucinda wwas a Swofford before her marriage to Abner Dunagan
